I thought Craig's bond was supposed to be about the raw brutality and emotion that gets hidden undernearth the tough exterior that bond throws up? The man behind the job, so to speak?

I think it doesn't help that some of us picture him as suave, humorous, ladies man when we were growing up with the character.

I grew up with Moore but dislike most of his Bond films. He is to Bond what Adam West is to Batman, and I can't stand the 60's Batman. I like Connery and Craig fairly equally. Connery for nostalgia and Craig for reminding me of the books.

Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

I guess I just 'buy' Craig, if you take my meaning. He looks badass. He's cold. He's the only guy who's played Bond that I would not relish the prospect of fighting. He just has that aura, and that's an absolute necessity if you're playing a cold-blooded government assassin, IMO.

But do you really want someone who oozes badass as yer secret spy guy? Sure you may not want to fight Craig, but Connery would just walk up and hand you a gift wrapped box. You'd be like "What is this, this in the box?" and he'd just say, "Open it in two hours, I have a date". And he'd drive away. And in two hours, you'd open the box. And your throat would be laying there, all ripped out.

Yeah, but isn't Bond supposed to be an assassin, not a spy?

I couldn't agree more with that. Spot on. However, I do quite like Adam West's 'Batman', even though it's not 'proper' Batman.

Dalton.

Connery was from a generation before me. I couldn't identify with any of it.
Moore was sooo 70s. A decade I spent my childhood in, and try to forget.

Brosnan was tooo smooth, too likeable - and had more gizmos than Moore.
Craig - I don't get at all. What's with the waxed pits but chest rug look? Besides, no-one looks good in budgie smugglers.

Can't go wrong with the Sean!

I have to say that Connery was my favorite, with Brosnan at a close second. I just thought Brosnan had a fantastic voice for the role.

The audience those swim trunks were aimed at found it nice enough. In the books Bond is not described as handsome at all, he makes up for it with machismo and a fierce intellect.

Craig is beautifully clinical in his portrayal. Gruff, and totally badass, but with a little taught decorum. I think the word I'm looking for is socipathic.

Bond is certainly meant to be damaged goods. Moore is alright as a superspy character, but ultimately not a great Bond, too many one liners.

But it has to be Connery. Original and best if you ask me.

I think the words you are looking for are "Jason Bourne"

Timothy Dalten. He played Bond as the git he really is. The films that he starred in had plots based in reality, none of this Dr No milarky, and were more in line with the original works. They showed him as man who's objective was to make sure that his country's interests were secured no matter what the cost, unlike the others who seemed to me more into the womanising. Cold and calculating just as Bond should be, just a pitty that he never managed that third film due to complications. =/

I think many people just recognize Sean Connery as not necissarily the best but the classic bond

Connery played a sort of Good Cop/Bad Cop in one guy; he was pleasant and well-mannered when he wanted to be, and the complete opposite when he didn't.

Brosnan was less of a nice guy but made up for it in how he went about his job. He might not be the friendliest chap but you can't fault his work as a Double 0.

I like Daltons edgier bond... Craig kinda goes back to that.

exxxxactly on the money how I feel. especially the Moore bit. I was just thinking, I think Clive Owen would have made an awesome bond instead of Craig. Just look at him in Children of Men (great movie) or Arthur (not-so-great movie) as the cynical, dutiful, not exactly likable, but no-bs tough and 'good' overall kind of character.

Retroactively applied infallability is its own reward. I wish I knew this years ago.

I agree with this.

Brosnan had the best feel of a Bond since Connery, his attitude mimicked it the closest.

Craig is a great Bond. The best part of Craig is that "Q" Division isn't needed to make a great Bond movie. Less amusing, perhaps, but no loss in quality.
