Dias doesnt have Arial assault? Whoops....

Had a game tonight against mech guard again. Same guy, same army only 2250pts. Was basically a tester to see if my new tactics could beat him, and eh, lets just say I learned a little more.. lol

I leant that in dawn of war set up (again ffs), I should have had one of the raiders with troop and hq and haem up front so I could get a WWP down at the far side of the board early, but the guard player set up way at the far end corner of the board.

I was finding it hard to get my charges into range and ended up standing in front of semi damaged vehicles after haywire grenade assaults, still waiting for the juicey meat to come out of the armoured tins!

For some reason I fired my HB from the talos before charging a vandetta squad, killing (didnt expect that to happen the way my averages continue to work out) one and stopping me from assaulting the other one. Many many many more mistakes but I scraped a draw due to objectives but I was decimated again.

The haywire theme worked really well, I just think that I needed to get my 'taloi' up the board quicker, that was down to stupid thinking, and shave a few points off my list to do something better with them. Maybe bump the scourge squads up from 5 to 10 or something.

I find trueborn with blasters in a venom a little annoying, because you can only move 6 and fire, and if you zoom into whatever cover you manage to find, you can still get shot down then your left with 5 defenceless chaps.

I think Im getting closer tho. I know this isnt an army list thread but can any rough ideas of some ideal anti mech lists be summarised from our discussions yet?

Id say definately some scourges, definately some talos although their hard to get into useful places and the enemy are always so scared of them. You definately need a general spread of dark energy weapons throughout the army, but the main problem stands with not being able to take taloi in a squad of 3!!

At least by the sneak peak it looks like the new models are coming out in june for them!!

BUT

Get a dark lance/blaster/heat lance/void lance BEHIND that tank wall . . . .

S8 vs. AV 10 = 2 glance, 3+ pen

S6+2d6 v. av10 = 4 glance, 5+ to pen.

which idiot decided that the heat lance was S6
or
not AP1
or (gasp)
assault 2??

Heat Lance is ap1.

Oh, and it was the same guy who gave SW broke long fangs and broke gray hunters. and broke thunderwolves. and broke razorbacks. and broke psychi- whatever....

We all know guard are too good for their cost. I'm an eldar player, having 300 points invested to get a pair of prisms to fire a single TL shot per turn is par for the course.

If you only have 17 lances in 1750, you're doing it wrong. Say what you like, but look at it from the other end of the table. When you're feeling all smug, setting up your awesome tank wall of transports, you glance across the table and see X dark lances.

X = 17? You feel like you're going to cop a few hits and maybe lose a banewolf.
X > 30? Suddenly you're looking for terrain to hide behind.

Its all about the perceived threat. If your entire army is sporting haywire grendades, so what? He needs to shoot you before you assault him, damn, sucks to be THAT guard player. Oh, right, that's exactly what he wants to do. However, the idea of being shot by an entire army armed with dedicated anti-tank weapons from across the table? Not something mech guard likes to see.

You can have wyches and other assault troops in all the transports. You can have your anti-horde in the transports. But when you deploy, you need to be a threat to guard, or they will sit there and blow you off the table.

Hmmm, yes. I probably need to shave off some extra points from here and there to get more physical models on the board. Definately not taking vect cuz he works out far too expensive.

Do we all think definately Ravagers as opposed to Talos? I would probably take 2 Ravagers and either a bomber or a talos, because I only have 2 ravagers. Have to make a bomber tho..

I'll put up my last army list and an updated version on the armylist section and link it here tonight.
