I'd just assumed some random quirk of history had changed things around so the Soviets weren't a problem or whatever. Part of the exercise is ingoring the Soviets, so yeah...
But other than that you're right. Hitler may not have liked the Americans, but he hated the Russians. He would have preferred to go East, rather than West.

Russia wasn't Communist or populated by Slavic people? These two minor changes would solve the Soviet 'problem'.

Well, if we're playing that game, then the US developed atomic weapons in 1918 and has been itching to use them ever since... you can't just go around changing the scenario like that.

We weren't changing the scenario, we were jokingly trying to come up with reasons why the scenario exists, namely why the Russians and Soviets aren't a factor. The basic scenario: Germany has taken Europe, the UK is defeated, the Russians aren't a problem, and there's a magical doohickey portal thingy in northern france that links to northern California remains the same.

exactly. If either side has to cross the Atlantic it gets boring. After all, Canada could kick Germany's ass if they tried to cross the Atlantic, and thats just with Hockey pucks.

Hmm this sounds fun
Firstly German Panzer divisions roll through California flattening resistance utterly and seizing control of the all infrastructure. The American South learn about the Nazi's, see that they share similar beliefs about race, sex and slavery and rise up in a huge rebellion and the Germans take control. The Northern states see the South rise up and wail. However Lincoln's spirit reanimates his statue in the Lincoln memorial and becomes President. Under his awesome might and charismatic leadership the North drives the Nazis back to Berlin where Lincoln himself personally takes to the field to fight Hitler (now a 20 ft super cyborg).
About as realistic as the Initial scenario
Ohh and before anyone jumps on me I only used the South as collaborators for the funny. I don't really believe they're all nutters
