I finished the game last night. Cool ending and all. But 2 people died. I read that if I had my ship upgraded no one would, but they didn't die till we were fighting through the place. I lost Samara and Thane. I did their loyalty missions so I wasn't sure what would have made them to die.

anyway I thought I'd play again as a girl shepard doing it full on renegade style, and this time it started with the comic right after the opening part with the old normandy. Dunno why it didn't do it on my first game though... I'd like to be able to get everyone to live at the very end though, so they're alive in ME3 too, if they need to be...

I could be mistaken but I think the formula that determines whether or not party members live always leave a small bit of room for death. Even if you do loyalty missions and upgrade the ship. I guess reload and try again?

Yeah I was just thinking I'll run through it again. I made a new save right before the last fight right when we landed. I decided to keep the collector thing in the end too, and no one on my crew liked that idea at all so I'm thinking I better just go back in time and blow it up. I knew I shouldn't have listened to Legion...

Didn't seem to make sense that they died, it was like "thanks for killing all that stuff, btw this guy is dead now". Or maybe it depends on who you leave in charge of the other teams? I was hoping it was going to be like Dragon Age where you get to take over the other team for a while.

Jacob needs to die. He really does.

It's completing their loyalty missions plus who you assign to the various tasks. Assign Jacob to get the doors, it's worth it to watch him take a plasma round to the face.

Why do people hate Jacob so much? He's the only guy with pretty much 0 psychological baggage.

I like Jacob but he has a lot of baggage too.

Do you play FemShep? He's bland, uninteresting, and if you play FemShep you'll want to shoot him in the face yourself long before the final mission.

Mass Effect was one of the few RPG's where I played the game as if I were in the situation, rather than a pre-defined character archetype.

So to make a long story short, nope never played lady Sheperd. Also never did any romance, because honestly if I were Sheperd there's no way Imma be intimate with all them freaks.

In that case Jacob was just a bland member of the crew.

ah.. I guess Samara died because I took her with me on the shield part and had Miranda do the shield bubble. At the very end of that part, little bugs carried her away. For the very end I took Garrus and Legion, but I guess Garrus should have stayed behind to lead the 2nd team, but I think I had Jacob leading it.. If anyone doesn't have max loyalty it's probably Jack since I sided with Miranda when they were fighting, but she lived through the battle...

I also had Kelly get turned into goo, we didn't get there fast enough to save her but I only did Legion's loyalty mission so it I didn't waste a ton of time... and the ships cook and 1 of the engineers didn't make it, but the doctor did.

But my save is just at the beginning of the ground assault at the end so I guess I'm gonna have to live with those other crew members dying...

I guess, but he was a lot more stable and everyman than the rest of the cast. I appreciate an everyman every now and then. He's one normal dude in a sea of alien vigilantes, gypsy aliens, robo assassins, fish-men assassins, killer jellyfish, brutal mercs, snarky thieves, psycho biotics, biotic gods, genetically engineered women, Wrex, blue skinned alien nymphos, and murderous doctors.

You can tell who's loyal by the little circle of light below them. Always pick Garrus or Miranda as team leaders. If you only did legion's mission Kelly shouldn't get liquified. You must have landed on at least one other locale. Have Mordin do the escort mission for the crew. He's not very good at "Holding the line" despite knowing Kirrahe..

hmm .. yeah as far as I know all I did was the loyalty mission and then that was it.. I think anyway.. now I can't remember. Too late though, can't go back that far. Well, I have one save that's way way back, but I don't wanna go back super far.

Was also wondering if it's worth starting a new game and importing high level sheppard, or just starting over from scratch with girl sheppard. I think I was level 28 or so.

Didn't say what? Sorry but I'm a bit confused.

Anyway, I think that's why he's appealing. He's pretty much me in space: fairly normal. When all the characters in a game, movie, or book are damaged, super-strong, whiny, stoic, and whatever other cliche character types you can think of, the story gets rather melodramatic. Then again I seem to meet lots of people who dislike evrymman characters, so maybe I'm in the minority. I also liked Kaiden and Carth (and hate Ashley so much). In fact I seem to always like unpopular and/or minor characters/factions in fiction.

Normal? Have you seen his workout routine? It's inhuman!

Oh lawd all the Shadow Broker dossiers were the best. I'd pay the 10 bucks even if it was just for those docs. Oh and the videos were great too. Damn that was a good DLC

Yeah, they were great. I love Legion's.

Ran through the ending again, this time just Thane died. I took him and Tali with me for the last fight thinking I could babysit him better. But, he wasn't loyal after all. I forgot I failed his loyalty mission... but, I don't think it's a big loss since he was dying anyway Decided to blow up the base too this time. I did all paragon this time, so I think the next time I'll go all renegade, but I'll make sure everyone's loyal before the end.

Overall I liked the story way better than DA:O but I liked the leveling and gameplay in DA better. I liked getting xp for each kill instead of a fixed chunk after a mission.

Well don't worry about it,Thane was stupid. His whole mind-body-soul relation was wonky. A 2 year old could penetrate his sophistry.

Yeah, not really seeing what the attraction with that guy is. He's a cold blooded killer without the stones to admit it.
