I think it's because modern rock is generally pretty horrendous.

Just my opinion.

Bands bands like Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple come from an era of rock where singing about sex was the norm (which is one of the reasons old-school rock is sweet), the abomination that we call modern rock however is more interested in singing

about teenage angst instead of sex (bad choice IMO I can't think of any situation where teenage angst should trump sexual intercourse) unlike all the older, awesome rock bands.

I blame Nirvana.

I almost always agree with Albatross, I can't see why anyone wouldn't.

I don't know if they started it but they certainly contributed to the whole teenage angst style of rock.

I'm fairly certain Sonic Youth is often considered the fathers of that stuff.

Well, there are plenty of modern rock songs that are about things other than teen angst.

Personally I prefer Nirvana to the glam rock they replaced, but that's just me.

Also, the most recent album I've listened to all the way through was Dark Side of the Moon. You can't listen to just one song off of that. Now that I think about it, most classic Prog Rock wasn't about sex. Drugs are an acceptable substitute though.

Glam rock was dead and gone long before Nirvana.

Anyway, last great albums I finished...

Something more recent:

From 2007, Theagonia by Rotting Christ. I'm not usually a death metal guy, but this is more gothic metal and melodic black metal, and it's just brilliant pretty much all the way through. There are a 2-3 weaker tracks, but they're all worth listening to.
