Why do people model idiotic options?

OP, just about anything (if your skills are good) can be removed from ebay purchases. There hasn't been a model yet that I have seen that can't be modified or "fixed".

I feel you, samus. I've gotten a couple trades from guys who model silly things, but I've been able to salvage them, usually. Just a little elbow grease and a sharp knife

Sometimes you can get good bits from stuff like your combi-flamer example.

Don't worry about it too much. People can't be expected to model things exactly as you want them for you

The list goes on. I just can't understand it. Are you even reading the codex, or do you just put whatever junk seems cool on your models? I could understand if you play proxies, or if you're buying them for showcase reasons, but even then... consider the fact you're probably going to want to sell them sooner or later, and modelling stupid options is a guarentee that you either won't sell them, or will get ripped off.

Anyway, rant over. I'm sure you guy's have noticed this too, so I can't be alone.

Actually I never model them this way until I am about to sell them on Ebay. I model everything to get the most bang for my points..... then right before I sell them on Ebay I strip off the good bits and glue on the crappiest combination of wargear I can think of. Endless amusement with that!

i for one would like to be shown how we should be building our figs by someone so worldly and wise and awesome as you ....

Wow imagine that? Someone using a non-optimized piece of wargear and maybe playing to have fun instead of building a cookie cutter unit to crush his opponent. I'd cringe if I saw a Defiler with a HF. Going to make me ensure I can get into assault range before I move rather than just thinking he won't be able to kill more than 3-4 Orks before the PK gets him if I fail to get into assault range. A HF will BBQ more boyz than I'd want to loose. Same with any flamer even the "useless" combi ones.

I don't think building an optimized list excludes the idea of a fun game or player.

On the other hand, I don't call non-optimized modeling choices as stupid.

We're getting into the territory where people start taking sides on the fluff-set
vs. the competitive set, but we have to remember that we're all playing the same
games even though different people look for different things in their game.
