So, do we consider collectibles/oop/ltd ed?

Or common/available?

If it is only currently available, about $2k

If including the rest, over $15k

I just got into wargaming at the exact same time I got my first job. I spent well over $1000 just at local GW let alone Ebay and Amazon.

5,000 points of Tau
2,000 points of Space Wolves
1,000 points of Raven Guard
Almost none of which is painted.

Well considering I've spent about $2,000 on console games and a new telly this year, its a comforting thought as I enter the hobby again that I cant possibly blow that much on 40K...i hope.

Do presents count as a wargaming expense?

I probably spent about $10,000, gross. But net, I spent nothing at all. That's the lovely thing about running a wargaming business. Most of the money I spent wasn't mine, but that of clients paying me to acquire and paint their models, and the rest was me spending my meagre profits on launching my own miniatures and games range.

I'm in the $5 to $10K bucket. How? Most of it is actually spent on travel and entertainment at Conventions and hosting events.
$7250 would be a round guess but if I went to look at my credit card it is probably worse (I don't think I added any Forge World purchases below).

1) Gen Con: $2185 (2010)
Ticket - $65
Event Tickets - $20
Hotel: 4 Nights - $1000
Go big dinner for me and the boys at a steakhouse (mmm St. Elmos) - $800
Gas - $100
Miniature/game Purchases at Gen Con - ~$200

2) Adepticon 2010 ($1800)
Team Tournament $120
Ticket - $30 (?)
Hotel Suite (2 nights) - $750
Big Steak Dinner for the team - $400
4000 pts of NEcrons (~$500)

3) Local tournament (CAG BASH) - $1100
$1000 for room
$100 for table felt
Income from tournament (organizer who went BK never paid me back agreed upon $450 after imbezzling 2010 funds to pay his personal bills rather then holding the tournament.)

4) Battle Foam (~500 in 2010...curse you romeo)

5) Miniature purchases ~ $1500 (maybe more)

4000pts of Blood Angels for 2011 adepticon ~500
Dystopian Wars ~ 100
Malifaux ~ 100
Terrain ~200
Zenit ~ $100
Bases ~ $100
Misc ~$400

My big purchases of last year hobbywise were roughly (mainly due to discounts from maelstrom)

Realm of Battle Gaming Board (plus expansion this year) - About 250 dollars (sale)
Arkurian Stormblade from Forgeworld - 166 dollars
Island of Blood (85 dollars?-ish)
High Elf Battleforce (80 dollars)
A bunch of characters and blisters (100 dollars)
A few IG tanks (100 dollars)
Assorted sundries (???)

What I buy doesn't seem that much, until you add it up. Nearly 800 dollars, or... over 500 pounds sterling.

And that seems like a LIGHT year of buying.

Edit: Just checked the price on stuff... Turns out using the GW US site for price comparisons isn't a good idea. For example my gaming board is more like 216 dollars than the 290 advertised there. So, call it 700 dollars and 400 pounds. Still very bad though....

Usually, less than 20 I'm a very frugal gamer. I wait to get things as birthday or Christmas presents, or I try to find really good deals on stuff (luckily, my FLGS has everything GW 25% off all the time). I don't buy anything until everything I have is painted, and I'm a slow painter.

I checked $100 to $500, but it may well have been more. 2010 was a low $ year for me and 40K compared to others where I'm rustling up a new army. I get the discount at the hobby store running a 40K game night, and therefore leave most of that paycheck at the store. Picked up a couple of Ork Battlewagons and some Blood Angel stuff to fill out 2200 pts of Dark Angels I converted to the ways of Sanguinius. Also picked up reinforcements for the Orks and Necrons from gamers cheap. Played 3 tournaments locally so that wasn't too expensive. Previous year was probably over $2000 as I built a gigantic Ork Land Cruzzer about 30" long, 12" wide and 18" tall which ended up being an objective in a massive Apocalyse game (116,000 points). Nothing like an objective that shoots back. This year, Dark Eldar - $600 so far. And White Dwarf every month since 2003. That's about $700.

This year Ive put together more a less a company of space marines from scratch (minus a couple of Rhinos). I mostly purchased the models second hand from my FLGS, Ebay etc and reackon ive spent just over £500.
Today i went in my Local GW for a bit of banter and ended up buying the basis for a Night Lords army, £80 that i should have spent on groceries etc but hey here we go again. I swear a drug habbit would be cheaper.

The galaxy is the Emperor's, and anyone or anything who challenges that claim is an enemy who must be destroyed
