You guys are making me jealous . I've often wondered why I didn't go the Ogre route, instead of WoC trolls... ogres are so much cheaper! It's awesome that they're getting a new book because imho they're a great beginner's army- close combat oriented, less models to build/paint, and pretty easy to use.

Plus you get to muck around with Gnoblars. Only takes a bit of luck to utterly humiliate any regiment in the game!

Sure, update the much newer and fairly competitive ogres and leave Bretonnians the only 6th edition army left.
won't forget this one GW, thats twice we've been passed up for update
Anyway, I guess good news for the OK players.

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure Ogres came out in 6th edition as well and before the latest bretonian book...If they weren't before it they were the army right after since I remember painting both those armies for our store displays back in like 2002 or so.....Could be slightly off, I'm getting old

I think that's not the only concept they're failing to grasp...but it's okay because he's not alone at least. I saw someone a week or two ago claim that Orks were "hyper competitive" or something of that nature. I don't think they were being sarcastic, either.

If they were to remove the iron shackles that are the OK hero and lor choice restrictions than maybe they would become competitive. Overall i think Brets are far more competitive than ogres and that this was a good call by GW.

Ogre Kingdom (2005)
Wood Elves (2005)
Dwarfs (2005)
7th edition (2006)
I remember it because GW introduced a new race (Ogres) and a new fraction (Kislev) just to avoid making the Wood Elf army book.

Thanks, Kroot. I was about to do that very thing. And yes, the OK are much more competitive due to 8th ed. If I were to have my choice, the order would be WE/Brets/Dwarves/Ogres in order of general need. WE are in abominable shape right now, Brets are only a LITTLE better. Dwarves really only need a few price adjustments and rules inclusions to bring them into line (Stubborn across the board, a Book of Grudges hero upgrade, a few new runes, lower cost of units) and I want them before OK for purely selfish reasons. OK DO need help, but they are a strong army in 8th. People who actually play the army and their opponants know this.

Therion wrote:6th edition lands on June 23rd!
Good news. This is the best time in the hobby. Full of promise. GW lets us down each time and we know it but secretly we're hoping that this is the edition that GW gives us a balanced game that can also be played competitively at tournaments. I'm loving it.

Ah. Mixed feelings about this, they kinda needed an upgrade, but they're already lethal with stomp and monstous support and all that, hopefully the new book won't make them too OP.

My brother plays Ogres. In all honesty, I think he is going to quit playing GW games. There is just so much dumb crap that happens in a game and there is nothing you can do about it. He played a game last night where his opponent had Pit of Shades. He was playing Dark Elves and channeled the bigger version of it. Entire unit of ogres with a Bruiser and a Slave Giant right next to it. Gone. Nothing you can do about it. Get lucky and roll a lot of 1's I guess. It is really silly because that hurts Ogres SOOO bad since their bread n' butter unit costs a ton of points to field.
So, in my opinion, Ogres are not that good...

Ogres have a banner that bends pit over.... also how densely packed was he? The large blast template is only so big. That should teach your brother to run a scroll and 1s and 2s save ogres and 3s save the gaint, I call that a fighting chance. And being someone who ties ogres almost every game i play against them (just cant get that uper hand)

That banner doesnt really "bend pit over"... more like it lets them choose another one of the ogres units within 6 to "get bent over" by the pit, instead of the one with the banner. Hopefully by that time you have some gnoblars left alive to take one for the team.
Now I'm curious if the runemaw will remain in the new army book. Sure hope so, its the only banner worth taking in the current one.

Lame. OK is the most garbage army for fantasy. Truly uninspiring design across the board. Very little character and personality. This army is going to get the hardbound army book treatment before some of the more mainstay armies? Garbage. I can't wait to see the full color glory of all the hideous and uninteresting artwork. I would rather see Chaos Dwarfs get a full color hardbound book dedicated to them from Games Workshop and OK can go to ForgeWorld and be thrown into a collected book for me to scoff at.

Thanks for calling me out. I usually avoid reading and posting due to over opinionated a**holes like I have proven myself to be in this case. I got all worked up for something I care little about. So it's my least favorite army in all of warhammer and I would rather have seen anything else. Big deal. FEEL MY UNWARRANTED WRATH! My apologies. Who farted anyway? Oh it was me. Damn that stinks.
