yea I'm ok with the arrest. I'm saddened there's no Youtube of the clerk leaping over the counter and beating him senseless, the prick. Alternatively the Youtube of him crying for his mama when he got tazed would have been excellent. ing hole.

"Throwing stuff all over" is a shorter way of saying "dispersed the stuff about about the counter and floor"
Except it isn't. Throwing is the action of taking something and launching it through the air, dumping coins on a counter is the action of taking a jar and turning it upside down.
I invite you to explain how 'throwing' is in any way similar to 'dumping' in this circumstance.

If you dump loose change onto a flat surface, some of it is going to roll off. Claiming that an obvious and forseeable consequence of your action isn't your fault is the kind of thing 3rd graders try to get out of trouble, it isn't something anyone sensible falls for. A business doesn't give you a receipt for an unknown amount of money, demanding a receipt is equivalent to demanding that the money be counted. It's like telling a mechanic to change your oil, but insisting that you didn't tell him to remove the fuel filter.

Actually, from dictionary.com:
throw away,a. to dispose of; discard. b. to employ wastefully; squander.
I invite you to explain how 'throwing' is in any way similar to 'dumping' in this circumstance.
Taking a jar and turning it upside down does, in fact, launch the contents of the jar through the air, so even by your definition 'throwing' is correct. Excuse me while I throw down a twenty to pay for drinks after I throw out the leftovers on the table!

Please re-read what I asked, because I believe I asked you to tell me how 'Throwing' is similar, not the action of 'throwing away'.
Try again.

Actually, if you read the article I linked, they did give him a receipt, and he didn't have to stand there and wait for them to count the whole pile.

I quoted dictionary.com to show that the meaning of 'throwing' that I used is an ordinary one, and pointed out that the definition of throwing that you used includes the actions described. There is nothing for me to try, the word throwing is appropriate according to the dictionary AND the definition you chose to post.

You're ignoring the fact that 'throwing away' is different from 'throwing':
dictionary.com wrote:Noun 1. throw - the act of throwing (propelling something with a rapid movement of the arm and wrist); "the catcher made a good throw to second base"
Verb 1. throw - propel through the air; "throw a frisbee"

I fail to see how he "forced" the staff in the place to call the police, they had a choice in the matter and they chose to make the call.
They could have upped the ante by counting the coins out and then charging him a $30 admin fee for the trouble, refused to accept the pennies or just accepted them.

You're ignoring the fact that English words often have more than one definition, even though I quoted the definition of the word that I was using from a dictionary. Take a basic English class if you have a hard time with the concept, it's not really all that tricky.

I guess this is English 101 day - have you really never been exposed to idiomatic language? Using your standard of 'force', no one is ever forced to do anything, since they always have a choice to do something different.

Re-read what you quoted, 'throw away' is different from 'throwing'. I also quoted from the same source you used, and you're also ignoring that now. Your stooping to accusations of intellectual deficiency is also a sign that you're all but out of ideas.

'Throw away', 'throw out', and 'throw around' are all uses of the word throw, but since you freak out at them I've quoted one that doesn't include another word after throw. I'm done arguing over the definition of a common word at this point, once the dictionary has been quoted there's really not much more.

Reading this again, he didn't force the staff to do anything. Your position appears to be that if I pay in cash, the store should call the police because I might report that money stolen later.
There is nothing in the various articles linked that indicates that the man was going to "claim that they stole his pennies", he was paying off a debt and the only request he made was for a receipt, which the clerk gave him. There was no reason for the staff to call the police.
As an aside, I actually paid a $35 parking ticket with change once. I had a couple of mason jars full of various denominations so I counted it out, made sure I had enough, and put it all into a large manilla envelope. The clerk at the courthouse smiled as I handed her the envelope (which wouldn't fit through the drop slot). A minor protest that was probably completely ineffective, but at least made me feel better (and got rid of a bunch of spare change).
