For a Hive World, yes. But Hive Worlds aren't as common in the Imperium as you might think.

1.000.000 worlds defended by 1.000.000.000 regiments = 1000 regiments per world.
1000 x 10.000 = 10.000.000 defenders.
Somehow, fortress worlds got 100 RGT in the BRB.....

And 1 million IG per SM > 1.000.000 x 1.000.000 > 1.000.000.000.000. Now again we have less than 10% of what has to be there.

i don't see how this is deemed improbable, if old emps had his throne screwed on he would accept this as a good plan, feth theres probably enough gaurdsmen to take on the orks one on one

It's GW being inconsistent. The Imperium doesn't have the resources or man-power to crush certain threats, and yet there's potentially 1000s of regiments PER PLANET. The Damocles Gulf Crusade had two. I'm sorry, mobilize three planets worth of Guard, steamroller the Tau.

If GW manages to produce and sell 10,000,000,000,000,000 guardsmen miniatures beleive me my friend we would be talking about a mega uber economic monster who happened to sell 1,600,000 minis to EVERY human being on Earth.

you dont buy that many? assuming 10 guardsmen is 30 dollars(i think thats right), i spend $4,800,000 on guardsman a year.

If you go fluff wise, there are planets that have probably about 20 billion people spread out over multiple Hives. And then there is Terra. You can bet that Terra is going to have a whole butt-load of people living there, with it being effectively a planet-sized temple.

Fluff wise you have hive worlds with 100+ BILLION people on them. So 1000 regiments per world isn't exactly totally out there, as depending on regiment size that would only equate to roughly 5 million soldiers per planet. Given a regiment is usually between 3 and 5 thousand men. Which isn't actually a lot when you come to think of it.

Billions of Regiments? Where? Seems my interpretation may have been flawed, but I was under the impression that most of the Imperial Guard is actively fighting some war here and there (and thus suffering constant attrition and replacement, "capping" the maximum number of Guardsmen), with only few strategically important planets such as Cadia actually garrisoned by the IG.

I mean, if there are billions of Guard Regiments, tithed from the 10% of the best Planetary Defense Forces, how many PDF Regiments does the Imperium have?

since we "know" now, that per GW's attempts at writing the guard got billions of regiments and the PDf actually gets the defending done alone mostly, lots of guard regiments must be available.
So finally, the regiments of the IG may gather and end the threat to the imperium in one titanic salvo of:
first rank fire, second rank fire, third rank fire, etc etc..

i dont think there are billions of regiments. millions, i think, and with billions or trillions of guardsmen in the whole imperium.

sure hive worlds would be able to produce a thousand regiments, but most worlds arent hive worlds- they are feral worlds, agri-worlds, etc. so saying that every imperial world provides 1000 regiments is silly.

the planets of the imperium are heavily specialised, so an agri-world ONLY produces LOTS of food, but is lacking in population so needs the hive worlds to raise enouh regiments for defence, while a hive world produces LOTS of men and munitions, but relies of agri-worlds for food.

therfore, assuming that the imperium regulate the number of world types, you just need to get every different typse of world and divide 1 million by that number. that is the amount of hive worlds, so times THAT by 1000, and there is a rough estimate of the amount of gaurd regiments. other worlds produce regiments, feral worlds for example are good recruit ment grounds, but hive worlds provide the bulk of them.
