Well if Canadian GW people ban older models.. guess that sucks for those canada stores. Guess I wasn't clear enough, pretty much since I live in America I tend to talk about American stores not ones that have crazy-talk rules imposed on them

(GW has dumb rules here too.. but not quite that crazy!)

I guess one of the reasons that I give the stinkeye to metals (that I'm buying, not gak on the tables across from me) is the limited posability of the models in the range. Often in a specialty squad (Eldar is what I have the most reference from) metals come in three poses for the entire squad. More true today than in the past. On a given slot choice I'd like to run two squads up to max - around 20 figs. Three poses!! Come on!

New plastics, easy to convert, numerous poses for the parts you select to put together. For me, that's what gets my dollars. When the Eldar release I would much rather have owned a multi-part plastic Autarch (like the SM Commander) than three metal Autarchs. And let's be real the metal figs (in the eldar autach example) all have the same base model (pose, flowing cape) with different accoutremonts (helmets, bling) to make them different. So if you're going to do that anyway why not make them a multipart plastic?

I'm the guy who likes to convert every model to make them all just a little bit different from one another. Twist of the head or arm -sure, a little seal hear or bling there - sure. A metal Sisters army - 80 Sisters on foot - 5 poses.....I pass on that.

I hope GW gets around to doing all my squad troops in plastic. It would be a happy day for me. Metals....keep them for really exquiste 1 ups that you can throw in here or there.

THE FUN HAS BEEN DOUBLED!!!

Yeppers, this was in Canada, Vancouver BC, 3rd GW opened in North America. It would of been around 90-91.

The 'not allowed to use older models' came around 98 or so ish. It was around the time 3rd edition 40k was released and the time they moved from Downtown Vancouver to Metrotown Mall in Burnaby. The manager at the time (Geoff) and most of the staff quit or where 'asked to leave' because of the decision when 3rd edition came out not to allow older models to be used in the stores. Maybe you had a Rogue manager who payed 'lip service' to the Area managers while allowing it in his store?

This is really odd. I've actually played at Metrotown GW and I was using RT era GKs. In fact, the staff there was pretty awesome and I had a great time. Granted, this was a couple of years ago, not 1998, but if anyone ever told me I can't field all my RT/2nd ed/OOP models in their store, I'd tell them straight to their face that they're f**ked.

Noobs? What about Beardies and LGS?

I see several LGS that are discounting metal across the board (even those items not yet replaced by Finecast). I think the writing is on the wall. I started painting minis in 1982 when I was 12 and Citadel was called "Ral Partha Imports". Look at the hobby now.

I consider myself equal parts gamer and painter. I admit for a time, I was a bit of a metal snob (over plastic). Now, I LOVE resin and think the new GW plastics (since 2006 or so) are fantastic. I am more likely to buy a figure in resin than metal and/or pick up a new kit in plastic. In fact, it is the first thing I look for in my pieces which I am in "collect" mode only. I think resin holds better detail, is easier to work with, allows for greater conversion posibilities w/ less hassle than metal.

For ranking up tons of WHFB figs. Plastic only please. They come on and off the table so fast...metals just get chipped and banged around too easily. For 40K same thing. Plastic. But I'm happy with Resin for my characters and leaders.

I've been very happy w/ my finecast purchases with exception of 1 which was easy to replace through GW. Azhag is a good example of a figure I would not buy in metal for the price point and number of pieces and wings. I think the resin version was $2 more than the metal and worth every penny for me as a hobbiest.

So yea.... metal gets the stink eye from me...

Define "at that time" please. I've been around Games Workshop in Maryland since 1991 and I've -never- seen the "goblin green rule". Painted yes (3 colors - not hard). Based yes (sand. not hard). Outside of the base done in Goblin Green? No, not ever.

Also - "can't use a model that isn't sold anymore" - no. Never company policy (and I've witnessed staff getting fired for trying to pull such a stunt.)

Canada thing? Possibly. Canada is known as "Bizarro World" in some circles.

Are you in Glen byrne (sp??) I seem to remember there being a store there aroud the time Toronto, Vancouver and GB opened. Wasn't GB Headoffice for GW NA?

The US HQ was in Glen Burnie Md until a few years ago. I played at multiple stores around Maryland. (White Marsh, Glen Burnie couple others).

What you had was strictly a Canada thing then. We never had that here.

I'm happy for you but it wasn't a Canada thing. The Houston Battle Bunker had 3 color, basing, and ringed base (not necessarily green though) around the 2000-2001 time period. Not sure when it ended as I was only there a couple times.

You can't make profit from something that's been discontinued ages ago. Look at magic, may people are giving the stink eye to players using old cards from 1994-1997 which are still legal due to being reprinted, and in the standard card pool.

They say it's too hard to work with.

Pshah! How will you learn stuff if you don't even try to do it?

Besides, the same techniques and tools can be used for plastics and resins.

You sir, are a trooper.
