Ah, well spotted.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

In fact, I don't think I've ever seen a British restaurant. Plenty of British pubs, for sure, but people aren't generally going to the pub specifically for the food... Well, there's a pub I've gone to specifically for the food, but it's an Irish pub.

I would put that down to the cultural identity of the United States being overwhelmingly 'Anglo', which leads to 'English' not being seen as 'ethnic'. You all eat sandwiches, right?

I mean, we have lots of anglicized food, tikka masala for example. But we also have lots of Americanized German/Slavic food.

Don't get me wrong, you guys did some good things. Tikka masala is easily in my top 5 foods, but you rank closer to Spain in culinary arts than France, so does the US.

And, if we're talking all of the UK, Walker's makes a damn fine cookie.

I've always heard that the American belief that English food is terrible comes from WW2. With the large number of troops stationed there, coupled with the rationing and army cooking standards, the food was pretty terrible. When the soldiers came home, they brought that experience with them, and Americans have been convinced the English can't cook ever since.

In reality, English food isn't that bad. It's rather simple food, but good. Although, English deserts tend to be... an "acquired" taste.

Oh, and German food is awesome!

I wasn't a fan of Spotted Dick.

Bangers and Mash is good, though. Just go easy on the onions.

We have a couple of places in Houston. They're mainly pubs but one has excellent food.

I honestly can't think of a German place, though.

With France their food is regarded as arguably the best in the world, you can have a fantastic meal very cheaply at a restaurant.

Here in the UK you can get the same quality or even better but you will pay significantly more for it.

In the past lots of chefs would go to France to train but right now a lot of French chefs have been coming to the UK.
I’d say the very best food is in London but good luck finding it and then paying for it.

Nice to see you have such high standards The Foot.

Indeed you would revel in the joys of British cuisine.

The humble Pork Pie is my recommended starting point then work your way up to such delights as Shepherds Pie (fear not it contains no shepherds), Steak & Kidney Pie (I fear it does contain kidneys but they are delish) and Toad in the Hole (fear not it contains neither toads or holes), the list of mostly pie based food here is endless! Rejoice!

That's true. It's a trick the Japanese have also managed, and the UK seriously lacks.

I think London probably has the widest variety of cuisine in the world, thanks to immigrants from all over the world.

The French can keep their fancy food all to them selves. The english can keep their blood puddings, Steak and Kidney pies and other varius items. I'm going to stick to the good old American way a few hotdogs, a case of beer and a baseball game.

Then have a coronary?

Hey I've just realised nobody has mentioned Beef Wellington Pie! One of my favourites. Fillet steak coated with pâté then cooked in puff pastry... Oh god I'm hungry now!

I've noticed that you have named all dishes that are also pies. If pie is this prevalent in English cooking then I may just go crazy. I love pie. I once wrote a paper in college about how great pie is.
