Mad Men
Battlestar Galactica (new version, obviously)
The Wire
Shame I can't put any Brit TV shows in there, but nothing we've ever done matches the quality of the above
A few people have mentioned Dexter which I also enjoy, but only Season 4 stood out as genuine quality. "Hello. Dexter. Morgan."

... Even though they've been mentioned I'll second both " True Blood" and " Supernatural" ( at least the first 5 seasons)... Both shows are silly as all hell, but a lot of fun.
I'll also give a big thumbs up to "The Walking Dead", though how season 2 turns out is of course yet to be seen...
Other shows worth a look..
Dexter
Deadliest Catch
Arrested Development
Death Valley
The Andy Griffith Show
...And anything with Gordan Ramsey in it.
EDIT:...
Oh yeah..." Brit" TV...I enjoy Fawlty Towers, "Allo Allo, and The Young Ones.

I watch an episode of something a day, because I put it on my laptop when I do my hours rowing. As a result, I've even watched things I didn't actually enjoy, and Lost was absolute horse gak. I made it to the end of the first season and I'm stunned at how bad it was.
GOT was merely decent, same goes for Dexter, BSG and 24. Although, the first two seasons of 24 were decent, the rest were progressively worse.
Lost and BSG are both shows you have to get into, they start off slow, and the beginnings do suck. The ending for Lost was crap, but most of the middle was pretty good. They did make some mistakes with Lost(polar bears anyone?), but it actually is a good show if you ignore them and just watch. Fething hate the ending though...

Supernatural, Merlin (BBC show, its actually pretty good....), The Middle.
I mainly watch comedy shows on TV, and then absolute rubbish like Man vs Food or Escape to the Country that no one should really be watching....
To be honest, i would be happy just watching Supernatural, Buffy and Angel over and over again

Man Vs food...I get really hungry every time I watch that show...
Anthony Bourdain: No reservations is good sometimes...
The show Swamp people is up there with Deadliest Catch as the only thing i would consider "reality TV"
Mythbusters is just awesome...period...
Stuff that comes on the Military channel is often entertraining...things like Combat Zone and Future weapons...
Deadliest Warrior is up there...although I only value it as entertainment and not necessarily factual...
the list goes on...

Seinfeld.
I am a rare non-american who has seen all the episodes.
In terms of addictive drama Sopranos is worth a watch as is the Wire especially season 2 and 4.
In terms of factual/magazine shows 'supersizers do --- ' is the best show ever. The concept is that the two presenters, the charming Giles Coren and Sue Perkins, adopt the diet of a certain age in history for a full week (i.e. 'the supersizers do the tudors'). With ALWAYS hilarious results. While very entertaining it is also very informative and packed with intesting facts.
True blood was initially interesting but about midway through season 2 it just got a bit.... crap...
The UK's bbc four and, occassionaly, bbc three do commission alot of intersting shows but most get cancelled. Though strangely the show 'ideal' perseveres on bbc three, i have never met ANYONE that watches it.

NCIS There are a few others atm that I watch on occasion, Mythbusters, Nothing to Declare (its a repetative cheap RL thing about Aussie customs/immigration but somehow I can't help being amused at the continued looks and excuses of 'I didn't know that was there officer!' ). I'm also thinking about trying to watch Lost Girl (if I can cope with that annoying werewolf) and Terra Nova (when it starts).

I, too, love a lot of these food shows; Iron Chef, Restaurant Impossible, Dinner Impossible, Man vs. Food, Chopped, Throwdown with Bobby Flay... good times. I'm also a fan of a lot of Food Network's traditional cooking shows like 30 Minute Meals, Boy Meets Grill, and Guy's Big Bite. I really miss East Meets West with Ming Tsai and I was really rooting for him on Next Iron Chef or whatever it was.

I commend you, good sir, on your incredible taste in TV shows.
Seinfeld was a fantastic series. I just love looking back on it and realizing that it has introduced a lot of terms to modern conversation. Unless I'm mistaken (and I could very well be), the double dip comes from there. And I have heard so, so many others in normal conversation, even today, that originated from Seinfeld.

As far as idiots who can't hold their liquor. . . . I guess the appeal lies in the fact that if they're on TV you don't have worry about them throwing up on you. Other than that though. . .
