I second Dakka Digest. It has a nice ring to it, and the name ties in with Dakka Dakka, where it came to fruition.

I've been wanting to do an interactive game magazine for a while now but didn't know where to start .. so if you need help let me know.. I'm a web designer and can do all that kind of of stuff.

Might be worth it to look into Apple's new Newstand app that's coming in iOS 5, that's coming in like a week or so.. supposedly you make your digital magazine and people can subscribe for a price (or free hopefully), and they get the new issue automagically downloaded to their device when it's ready to go.

I dunno how to handle Android devices though, since I don't have one.

I think it would be good to do a month in review for the news, but worthwhile new release kind of stuff, not the "OMG GW is gonna because they did (insert dumb marketing idea here)" megaposts. And other stuff like painting contests, new articles people make, highest voted gallery pics, etc.

This is interesting, I look fiorward to it coming to fruition.

Don't forget to stick to the Dakka theme though, I demand ork orkmoticons on Every page!

I'd be more than happy to help out. I've got a creative writing degree and a fairly solid english A level (with a few stories lurking on my laptop - some even finished ).
I've got a lot of personal projects on my plate at the moment though. I would like it to include the more 'Specialist Games' articles like the WD of old...here's some regular titles and suggestions (apologies if already mentioned)...

Gitatorial - The Editorial Section - An introduction to the edition and other random musings about Dakka. Needs a picture of an Ork Newspaper Editor, with cigar
Shiny 'tings - A brief round up of the new releases or what's new to Dakka.
Dakka Approved - House rules that don't suck. Campaigns, new units etc
Overwatch - Thread spotting. A brief piece covering a thread or two, maybe a PM interview with the member repsonsible and links to other threads from Dakka.
They said what? - A small box with quotes of the month from Dakka members via submission (not that kind) or vote.
Game Face - Tactics, army lists (competitive/themed).
Warzone - No not the game - just another title for 'Battle Report'...
Retrospektive - A place where we can look over great games that were - basically a brief nostalgia section and where you may find the rules etc...
Confrontation! - A small section highlighting the more robust discussions that frequent Dakka (if they need highlighting?)...
Dakkafold - A pretty picture of a pretty mini (or few) submitted to Dakka, old and new - perhpaps a little piece on it/them.
Writer's Bloc - A short story section.

That's just a few off the top of my head. My main suggestion would be it's got be organised just like a magazine. So an editorial/proof reader section, graphic design/layout, writers organised into their subjects (at least what they're most likely to write about) etc...

I can see choice of content being tough - there's a lot happening on Dakka. Perhaps after a 'test run' or two, or three, we could get a sticky thread up? It's going to take a lot of organisation for sure but I'd love it if the Dakka community could pull it off. I suggest monthly or a larger bi-monthly edition.

Oh wow, what a surge of interest! This is making me confident that we can make this thing a reality. OK, to make a start I'm going to temporarily appoint myself as submissions editor until I die or you find someone better. Hope I'm not stepping on your toes here, TheMumm.

Please can anyone interested in submitting fiction, battle reports, articles and opinion pieces, tacticas, or any other miscellanea please send me a PM with a link to, or sample of, their work.

Something short would be best as I've only so much free time I can dedicate to this, but links to existing work would do as well. In terms of fiction, a 200 word sample would be just about perfect.

I'd be up for contributing in some way, perhaps writing something etc. No experience in any form of journalism but I enjoy writing, and I think I can dedicate some time after work to work on something, providing this is going to be monthly...

Also, what about having a 'Dakkanaut of the Month' article, where we have a 1-page interview with a randomly chosen dakka user, bit of a bio, ask about their wargaming/real-world stuff etc etc?
Maybe impose some limits, like must have over x number of posts etc etc to be considered for selection or something?

I'm pretty good at putting words to paper. Creativity and stuff like that in spades.

That is actually a nice idea, it would be a nice addition to get to know the more well posted users on dakka a bit better.

How about a piece highlighting one of the smaller miniature/scenery/base etc companies each issue?
I've found so many I wasn't aware of via Dakka.

Everyone Else - Thank you so much for the great responses. Call this the official project green light. I'll be at work all day today, so I'll be reading through your guys' responses and suggestions and getting some notes together when I've got the downtime. I'll probably lurk most of the day too, and tonight put up some more concrete information and update the staffing list. I wish I had the time right now!

Can I contribute im liking this idea but you will have to give me a little bit of time as GCSE's are hard to gain at this period of time.

To address a technical problem, will the magazine be sent straight to subscribers? Or should we set up a blog with a link, possibly under an account for the magazine, and send out PMs to herald the magazine's release?

Brief little check in; I'm not worried about distribution yet, we'll handle that when we start getting closer.
