I am both selfish and chaotic. I value self-gratification and control; I want to have things my way, preferably now. At best, I'm entertaining and surprising; at worst, I'm hedonistic and violent.

I tend to buy stuff at random off the shelves, then if i like what i read i buy almost everything there is by the same author.

Best thing i've ever read was Use of Weapons by Iain M Banks. The series of books about the 'Culture' it one of the most entertaining, thought provoking sequences out there (except for the last 2... they're pretty gak)

Stephen Donaldson's Gap Series. Maybe the most brutal Sci-Fi ever comitted to paper?

Phillip K Dick's Solar lottery ranks highly too.

If I had to pick just one it would be Orwell's "1984".

Honestly I'm not sure why I like it so much, but I just do.

I was surprised how quick it was to read, I don't think it's short, just very well written.

I don't have a favourite book, though I found The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch very memorable and am going to read it again soon I think.

it is impossible to pick just one, there are so many good ones.

I can't even pick a favorite author. I like certain ones at certain times.

3 of my favorite funny authors

http://www.chrismoore.com/

http://www.carlhiaasen.com/index.shtml

this guy is in the same realm of Carl, funny fiction about crazy criminals in South Florida

I have laughed out loud countless times reading these authors books. I would always get looks on the city bus, they just make you light up and laugh. There is usually a good story buried in there too. That doesn't sound right, there is usually a moral to every story. They are all expertly crafted novels.

A very gripping book that I enjoyed that was a true story was

real life defiance in the face of a superior enemy. anyone who is a fan of WWII should read it.
