Look, the ETC is what it is. As someone has pointed out, this thread was about how the ETC is progressing towards what many would consider the norms of 40k (most notably the lifting of the special characters ban). If there's other elements of the event that you don't like, that's fine, but clearly there is a slow progress towards change. This thread is like watching a Marxist a raise in wages in a developing nation because despite the improved standard of living, the corporate world hasn't been overturned yet - sure they may have changed, but it isn't the scope of change I WANT.

I too think they should allow some reiteration of army selection. Certainly a team of 8 GKs might be excessive, but maybe a cap of 2 armies from a codex or something like that.

I actually disagree, though I doubt I'll ever participate in the tournament anyway.

I think the difficulty in finding eight different players who can play at a high level using eight different codices is the entire point behind the tournament. It is one of the main limiting factors that controls, in my opinion, the quality of the individual players who enter. Let's face it, there are some codices where it doesn't take a lot of effort for a player to be competitive.

Allowing duplication in codices would be something akin to what the American League in US Baseball did 40+ years ago with the introduction of the Designated Hitter.

It's a valid option for a different feel of a game, but it takes away from one of the fundamental aspects that makes the sport what it still is in the National League.

Allowing duplicate codices would be a tremendous change. It would dramatically reduce the importance the match-up phase of each round, just like the American League's Designated Hitter has removed one of the most complicated portions of the manager's job.

Here is to hoping that they do the same with Fantasy.

Not a valid comparison as unlike 40k, Fantasy needs comp.

That's my take, too, Phazael- the fantasy comp is SO restrictive, it's almost over the top... no matter how many caveats are made, there will always be openings for a list more powerful or unbalanced than others... it's just too tight right now, by almost any measure that you can compare it to.
