There are some people who take Page 5 as an excuse to be obnoxious twits, but is that any different to their equivalent TFGs in the 40k fanbase?
I had a big post typed up, trying to explain myself, but honestly I don't think anyone wants to read that gak so I'm not going to say much. Basically I only really had one sort-of negative experience in person when a guy was trying to talk me out of
40k and into Warmachine instead (an ex-
GW fan I imagine, so you can probably guess what that was like...and I say sort-of negative since at the time I didn't really give a gak about his opinion and started up
40k anyway), and most of my assertions are based purely on the vitriol I saw posted on
PP's forum some years back.
I mean I didn't think it was possible to have such deep-seeded hatred for plastic models simply because
one company you don't like makes them, but it was there. Like I've said before though,
PP is to blame for a lot of the ridiculous behavior of their own fanbase...they wrote Page 5, they advertise the game in a 90's EXTREME kind of way, they pushed that metal was not only superior but what a MAN'S models are made out of, etc.
Anyway, it's probably best in situations like this to ignore what the online community says and do whatever the feth you want, but still, I don't like picking an army and then watching people's faces twist in disgust or having them ask "You picked
them?", feeling like I have to "explain myself" in a way. How the hell could you pick Retribution jacks over MANLY STEAM AND RIVETS HURR? How the hell could you pick Tau over SPESS MAHREENZ FOR
DA EMPRAH DURR? At least with Retribution people can't accuse you of being a anime fan or a commie I guess.
lol, so the language censor actually changes that word to "anime fan" now...I'm not even sure that's what that means.
