So we can burn away all BL books ever published?
Funny how a lot of people see them that way, while taking "Fire Warrior" game for completely realistic thing
Just because many witters write those books and everyone of them have it's smaller vision of 40k doesn't mean that they are not considered canon anymore.
And for reference: Overcharged Lasgun can blow up a Drednought, why wouldn't high powered one kill Space Marine with shoot in the head? Automatically Appended Next Post: TheAngrySquig wrote:

That thing is off limits even for Necrons.

The Emperor doesn't have a GKs unshakable faith in the Emperor which is....basically himself?

The fleet was on the verge of defeat, and won the day with a deus ex machina. The PDF were slaughtered along with the Ultramarines, mop up was done after the the fleet battle, and Macragge is still infested at its polar caps.
There's basically no mention of the Macragge PDF, but all the Ultramarines died or fled, and on returning mopped up the scattered pockets of surviving Tyranids, meaning someone wiped out the bulk of the forces on the surface, and the PDF was the only military force left on Macragge after Calgar ran off to run his fleet into a trap. Calgar's fleet was the one near defeat when the Navy finally showed up and wiped out the Hive Fleet.
Not to mention, Behemoth wasn't entirely destroyed. There's mention in recent fluff of olnly 'several tendrils' of Behemoth being destroyed, and the fact that it was the hive fleet that took part in the Medusa campaign shows it's still alive and kicking.
Scattered elements survived, to form insignificant splinter fleets that annoyed isolated backwaters.
A handful of naval vessels and a few regiments of Guard, together with the pathetic forces Calgar could muster, slaughtered half of the largest (by that point) fleet, while the other half was butchered by a craftworld.
I won't argue the defense against Kraken. There's little information at all stating what the Imperiums actual defense consisted of, though Iyanden lost 80% of its population, which can't be considered a victory.
But Kraken was still destroyed, for all it crippled a craftworld in its deaththroes.
It hasn't been stopped because it showed up at the effective "current point" in the fluff.
Irrelevant. You said
every Hive Fleet so far has ultimately been massacred by whatever makeshift flotilla or handful of warships happened to be waiting when it showed up
I concede that was a poor choice of words, that left crucial details.
And let's not forget examples from Black Library, like two regiments of Guard stopping a splinter fleet, and the like.
Lets not forget the Black Library also had a Guardsman firing an assault cannon from the hip, Lasguns taking the heads off Chaos Marines, Guardsmen completely unprotected in the warp, and other such nonsense.
The Black Librarys stuff isn't considered canon for a lot of reasons.
Everything GW publishes or approves is canon, unless they explicitly disown it.
