For example, if I wanted to make a character who follows "daedra" worship (Chaos gods, Nurgle, Khorne, etc.), I would equip trophies, once acquired, and various towns people would outright attack (priests, Sigmar followers), others would 'psst, I know who you are, hail sithis" sort of thing. Eventually, these various gods could confer blessings onto your character.

This wouldnt be limited to the Chaos guys, I'd include Sigmar (as the main deity), Morr, Ulfrik, etc.
I thought the same eggzact thing, but in Warhammer 40K. Youd start as a space marine and depending on how you play youd be contacted by one of the chaos gods (or eldar, if it would make sense). As you play youd gain perks for how you play (as well as the normal skills you can upgrade), such as khorne may give you more melee damage, or the cult of mechanicum gives you better repairing abilities, and so on and so forth.

I would prefer the first idea to be honest, playing as a space marine really narrows your options down in terms of role playing.

I disagree. Almost everything you can do with warhammer you could do with 40K.
Besides, i feel like warhammer fits the stereotypical rpg too much. Warhammer 40K would provide a new enviornment altogethor, making it unique, new, and still fitting into the rpg catergorie as well.

Baldur's Gate III.
Icewind Dale III.
Hell, anything on the infinity engine. Those games were great.
And the Icewind Dale II graphics are pretty awesome. Try being a solo sorcerer, you'll get absolutely mobbed with enemies more or less all the time. It's fething awesome.

Ever thought 40k would be a lot better with bears?
Codex: Bears.

Think about it. Mage translates to psychic, knight to tac marine, assassin/thief to scout, etc.

Inquisitors can be just about anything. Good/evil, pyschic/badass warrior, rich/poor, high fiction/low fiction.
An Inquisitor RPG would be the greatest game ever made, easily.

Just thought of one a second ago while painting up my Typhus...

Tekken/Soul Calibur meets 40k.. Think about how epic a game it would be if you could take Typhus and have him fight Calgar, or Yarrick fight Ghazzie, etc.
