I agree here, that all had a firm grasp on Tactics and War, some were good at one thing better than others

so let go through their possible specialities in my opinion

Angron - Assault
Dorn - Fortification and Defences
Perturabo - Siegecraft
Alpharius/Omegon - Infiltration and Espionage
Girlyman - Logistics and Planning
Jaghati Khan - Speed
Corax - Surprise
Ferrus Mannus - Mechanics and Metalworking
Vulcan - Blacksmithing and Pyrotec
Leman Russ - Assault, Tactician, Brotherhood ( Wolf Pack ) Mentality
Horus Lupercal - Charisma, Diplomacy, Politics, Planning
Conrad Curze - ?
Sanguinius - Flight, Diplomacy,
Lion El Johnson - Tactician, Brotherhood Mentality
Lorgar - Manipulation, Charisma, Psyker
Magnus - Psyker
Fulgrim - ?
Mortarion - Determination

Some I have tried to think of but cant quite put my finger on anything concrete plese feel free to expand on the above list, I may have things wrong but this is my opinion.

Perhaps someone could offer their own List?

I think the top spot is tied, but I think that if you gave Leman Russ or The Lion a problem to sort out they would be the best to succeed without any problem

There are circumstances in which you can destroy the enemy utterly, without loss to your own forces, and yet the victory may be his. In all situations, you must first decide on the nature of victory, and then take steps to secure it. Avoid the instinct of fight first and think later." ( Leman Russ )

Curze was terror tactics.
Shock and awe was more Russ' and Anrgon's department...

This would indicate that more thought from the GW writers has been put into making some Primarchs 'Special Abilities' stand out more than others, such as Girlyman, Russ and Dorn to name but a few.

I stand by my original comment...

Regarding tactics, Fulgrim would be an Elitist- all of his units trained to be the best at everything rather than just one aspect.

As for who could take a planet with the least loss of life, Kurze is a clear winner, since he could force surrenders by announcing his legion's presence. In battle though, Alpharius wins. He let an enemy dig in just so he could take them apart, and lost almost no one in the war.

Arguing with some people is like playing chess with a pigeon. You can play the best chess in the world, but at the end of the day the pigeon will still knock all the pieces off the board and then gak all over it.

I was always of the impression that guilman was more a logistical genius than a real tactical one. He would mainly win because when it came to fighting his troops would be the best supplied. Handling things like that makes a huge difference.

Personally I think the title of best tactician would be the Lion. cold calculating and brutal. That is the way of tactics. Its not the best for keeping an empire happy, but winning a campaign under any circumstances its what is needed. The only time it will go wrong is if the opponent does something so ludicrously illogical that no countermeasure was considered, and the only enemies who might do that is orks.

Being a good bad guy is like being a photographer, you have to wait for the right moment.

Can I just add that Lorgar would be Faith, Charisma and Determination.
