Tau markerlights are weapons themselves. They have absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with the searchlight rules.

They are exactly shooting. You fire them like a weapon. You can't take cover saves because they don't cause wounds.

Marker lights and searchlights aren't even close to each other.

My thinking was more if you had 1 hunter-killer missle left. Could you check visability to illuminate it and choose not to fire your HK missle.

But this seemed to be cleared up by the quote, "Having fired at it."
