What exactly in the OP lets you think he has an attitude problem ?

His entire post comes off as Internet Tough Guy and that he has anger management issues. Not saying he is or he does, but it sure seems like it.

Ouze, you are correct about Advertising. We can technically take it to the trades ombudsman, but by law they are not required to honour advertising.

HOWEVER: They cannot falsely advertise to make their product more enticing (not their price, but the capabilities of the product.)

In Australia a Salesperson can technically state the price at the desk, and change it depending on the buyer if he is so inclined, though most wouldn't.

In the OP's case, I think your situation is not correct, the store clerk sounds like a jerk, I'd call him more but I think it would be overdone.

First off, Hyd Don't say 'let.' You don't have the right to decide what the person can or cannot say, therefore believe would fit a lot better.

So he takes my card, scans it again, and stares at me in a way I perceived as a "hard stare" and repeats "declined." As I'm opening my mouth to let him know that I'm about to climb over the counter and throttle him if he doesn't manually punch my card in, my friend says "I got it" and whips out some cash. So, that problem stopped there. This guy did not end up getting throttled.

The guy is angry in the AFTERMATH. No matter whether or not he truly wanted quote unquote "throttle" him is immaterial, the fact is he did not. He is angry now; he is taking his frustration out against the keyboard.

However, he shows himself to be fairly pompous by suggesting he's that rich. Again, Immaterial is the fact, but it shows to me, at least that he feels he is entitled to it. Thus, I can safely say that he does have an attitude problem, or that he is unconsciously bragging.

In the end, OP is correct. If the guy doesn't want his money, fine. OP, take your business elsewhere he obviously isn't deserving your patronage and he makes no effort to gain it. To me, this is enough to wash my hands of a company or store. A car salesman will be a sycophant until he gets his money from you, this man is the same. If the man doesn't have the decency to at least attempt a number-punch, he is not a good sales person.

Seriously. Vote with your wallet. Shop elsewhere. HE obviously isn't interested in your money.

Actually, my comment about being able to afford three quarters of his store wasn't a pompous remark about my wealth. I had intended it to be a remark about the store itself. There are maybe ten boxes of 40k stuff, perhaps twenty books on various things, no paints at all. Though I can see why people would come to the conclusion that I was bragging about my wallet. That was a miscommunication on my part. The store is heavily lacking in merchandise. And I'm glad you, Scipio, pointed out how truly I wanted to throttle someone. The thought of actually choking somebody over that is a bit over the edge. I had assumed most people might infer that I wasn't being literal.

Yeh to be fair it would make for a fairly weak boast if that's what it was. I mean anyone with that amount of money sitting in a current account in this economic climate has a seriously poor judgement of how to invest their money. If anything he's being humble.
