My only problem with ST is that they compete with Marbo on the elite list, who I generally use in a similar manner as ST. Granted the ST might be a little better at the job, but if I'm trying to shave points.

That being said, I run ST (w/ either plasma or melta) in at least half my battles and they generally do a good job at what I send them after.

As it's been established.
-Placement is important
-Taken special weapon will determine target
-Use their deepstrike
-They are not vets
-Get lucky on when they come out

"Because 6th edition is the ruleset that 40k fans deserve, but not the one they need right now... and so we'll argue over minutia... because GW can take it... because faqs and erratas require effort and money... they remain a silent rule maker, a neglectful protector... a Space Marine fanboy..."

Storm Troopers
+2x Plasma Pistols
+2x Plasma Guns = 135

Veterans
+Demolitions
+3x Flamers (assault troops - meltabomb this!) = 115

Thoughts - Two equally unique and now awesome units in 6ed

For gunslinger, can you just jam two guns on a model and blaze away or does the model's profile need to say that they have two guns specifically?

The vets are nowhere close. Yes, they score (which is really why you take troops), and they get free meltabombs and a demo charge of questionable use. The stormies, though, get the ability to pinpoint deepstrike, and the ability to take armor saves against bolt weapons, and their small arm comes with Ap3, which makes a big difference compared to Ap-.

Vets will wallow around waiting for something to get close. The stormies will show up anywhere and beat friggin' face.

Plus, in this case you're comparing the equivalent of three plasma guns to three flamers. If you give the vets plasma to make them fill the same role, the vets are even more expensive.

Needs to be able to take two Pistols as part of its Wargear.

Peace!

Actually what you're looking for is where it says a model can replace its bolt pistol OR chainsword (for example) for a plasma pistol at10/15pts. So you replace both with plasma pistols. Most guys that can take a PP can do this, though not regular joe assault marines unfortunately.

I'm trying to say... take both!

I've been thinking about a similar vet squad. I think you give them Grenadiers instead of Demolitions, and definitely put them in a Chimera. You use them to try and go and take objectives (because any elites can claim objectives, and PCS/SWS do the job of defense/counterattack a lot cheaper.
