Here's a few pics of the bits I received.
First of all the hand weapons next to
GW fantasy bits that I believe are dwarf weapons.
A bit small unfortunately.
Second, I wanted to compare them to less "Heroic" scaled minis. I didn't have any Perry plastics or similar, so here they are against Mantic Elf weapons.
And Mantic Elf heads.
Mantic Elves are pretty slim, so I think it's a fair bet that they'd do well combined with less-than-heroic 28mm plastic humans of the type made by WGF, Perry, Gripping Beast, etc....
Lastly, here the helmets are against
RT era Space Marine Helmets.
RT era helmets are a bit smaller than current helmets but are still bigger than the Eccentric helmets. I'll still try them out on
RT bodies at some point. I wanted to make a few
RT marines with more medieval style helmets. If these don't work out I'll probably get some Muster or Retained Knight helmets from Alternative Armes instead.
In the end, I'll probably find some use for the fantasy bits, either in converting figures for post apocalyptic, or in rearming some old school fantasy metal figs I have lying around. The quality of the bits is very good and the casting is very crisp. No excess flash here. Though looking plain at first glance, it's only the lack of
GW uber-filigree and this is not a shortcoming. The weapons are quite thin, but with the cast on hands, they should be plenty sturdy. I feel I can recommend these bits for those converting non-heroic 28mm miniatures. Also, these would probably be ace for fixing up or converting old-school 25mm metal minis as well.
One final note about the sprue of 16 helmets. There are 4 each of 3 sculpts, 2 of one sculpt, and one each of two sculpts. A shame as the two one-each sculpts are my favorite, but they're all well done.
As for the bases, they were nice enough, but despite the large cavity in the center a mantic miniature with their round integral base wouldn't fit in there, and if that won't, then it's likely that the cast on metal bases of many other metal figures won't either. The base or figure could be modified to fit, but this is a real shame, as other vintage figures such as Metal Magic have similarly sized near-15mm round bases. This seems like a real missed opportunity to present a product that would have more applicable uses. It's still a good base at a good price, but aside from being available in smaller quantities, I'm not sure what there is to recommend this base over similarly priced products from Mantic and less expensive bases from Proxie and Renedra.
