I prefer 40k, because it's a grimdark, war-torn future, whereas the Horus Heresy, while still cool, is more an epic age of heroes and villains doing battle across the galaxy.

While I like 30k and 40k, I prefer the 10,000 years inbetween.

Agreed, and there were some really dark times in there, and the beautiful thing about it is, that if Chaos wins any of those stories its not such a unbelievable thing, considering sectors are won and lost quite often.

i love the heresy era, its the beginning of the incredibly slow end of the imperium, it shows that no matter what genetic advances humanity can make, it still succumbes to arrogance, hubris and its lust for war.

in all fairness i prefer the days when the emperor wasnt a carcass strapped to a life support machine thats powered by the harvested souls of 10,000 people each day ( i mean for gods sake, pull the bloody plug already!) and the imperial creed is killing the imperium as planets that dont bow down to the greater good are wiped out by the tau empires, its extreme xenophobic nature is holding its own technology back (they could have a plasma weapon that doesnt explode all the time) and with the impending black crusades plaguing cadia, the imperium needs all the help it can get really.

so yeah, i prefer the heresy to 40k, but i still 40k

oh and read about real men, space marines? really? the people that have 2 hearts, are over 7 feet tall and have bones aumented with ceramic plates? thats not a man, thats a pussy who hides behind power armour whilst the real men ( as in the ones who have the same amount of hearts as the rest of us) have minimal armour and while they may not "know no fear" like the adeptus astartes, they fight through that fear and can still gain victory
