What bothers me is the uneven distribution of psychic defense. A lot of armies don't even have the option to overpay for something. Sure there is DTW now but, that only stops targeted spells and if there is one thing I have learned it is , you should never count on 6's.

When you look at it as they can pick a good default power then only need ld 9-10 to target their own unit and you have no way to stop it, it does not seem so random. The buffs you are failing 9 or 17% with a lot of the armies not being able to stop you. When you are doing a debuff or a shooting power the odds are about the same as with a normal shooting attack where it depends a lot more on what you are shooting with and who you are shooting then anything else. Surely the small chance of failing the ld test is worth having access to some of the shooting attacks.

It's not even a little bit the same. All those "tests" that you mentioned with a shooting attack, a psychic attack has to pass the same ones. But the psychic power ALSO has to pass leadership and Deny The Witch. This means any psychic power that copies a weapon is automatically .91*.83=.758= 75.8% worse. If you had a mind blast that acted like plasma cannon, it will do 75% less dmg over the course of the game, at least (we haven't figured for any other psychic defenses, or a DTW roll better than 6+) and it probably costs 3x as much.

They are not 75.8% worse (though your math is correct). They are 24.2% worse. Because 75.8% of the time you have the same result, the chance of failure (1-Chance of success) is the amount the power is worse.

but I agree with everything else you said.

I thought I just clarified that? Yes, yes, 75% as effective = 25% worse.

Yes, and that was posted as I was typing mine.

On Dakka he was Eldanar. In our area, he was Lee. R.I.P., Lee Guthrie.

Well, it's sounds like you're talking about what I was talking about…buffs are clearly better, and the worth of a disciple is mostly based on its prmaris.

But divination and telepathy are the only ones that have primaries powers worth getting.
