Sergeants are characters - that's spelled out pretty explicitly.

I agree that SGT's are considered SC, but in the manner of discussion above that is not how it is playing out.

They are not Special Characters.
They are Characters.
There's a difference. And people are arguing the former, not the latter.

Try page 411 of the brb.

The FAQ defines Leaper and Doom as Special characters.

... You and I must be looking at different FAQs.
The BA one doesn't spell out that Mephiston is a SC either.
Actually, he's right. p. 4, the Q. begins "Tyranid Special Characters."

Sweet. The Doom is totally going to be challenging various people.

Pg 4, Tyranid Special Characters... lists the lot of them.

Interestingly enough, it also lists Yealers as 'special characters'.

Sounds like the unintended byproduct of an old FAQ ruling, but that does seem to be the case. I wish GW would just spell out exactly which models are characters, would save some guesswork.

Characters are the leaders of your army. Special Characters are unique leaders that you can only take one of. Wolf Guard are only characters when they are Pack Leaders. Tyranids are just their own beast which is why they explained it the way they did in the FAQ.

I doubt things like Grey Knight Nemesis Dreadknights and Eldar Wraithlords (which are characters) are considered 'leaders of your army', so there's no such requirement.

Im also unsure where "Wolf Guard are only characters when they are pack leaders" comes from. Did I miss a FAQ entry or something? You can certainly have all-character units ala Paladins and Nobz.

I'm sorry, there's a VERY simple answer to this....

They are Special Characters. By definition, they are Characters (that are special). I'd have thought that was pretty clear cut...

Praxiss wrote:What about Asdrubael Vect's "Dais of Destruction" it's clearly a named vehicle, it's not explicitly unique, however it is a one off by virtue of Vect himself being unique.

I would like to know this too.

While it only applies to Precision Shots at the end of the day, it would be nice if the Dais was actually a Character or not.

I've also got a fandex HQ unit special character that's a razorwing.. who by rights should get Precision Shots, and if the Dias would, another character special dedicated transport should get it too

Its the first sentence of the Characters description...

Also, the new rulebook FAQ specifically says that now. Nobz and Wolf Guard are only characters when they are leading a unit, and Paladins are no longer characters at all.

And for the OP the new FAQ also specifically says that Bjorn is a character.

So i suppose a Necron Overlord or names IC would get precision shot if they were mounted on a CCB (althogh they obviously cannot accept/make challenges).

That's how i've been playing it anyway.

I would assume so. They are, after all, only firing from the vehicle and are not the vehicle.

BTW - this is now answered in the BRB FAQ that got posted. Page 4, right column, 5th from the bottom.

Where does it say that WG are only characters when pack leaders?

BRB FAQ.

Page 411 – Reference, Profile, Codex: Space Wolves, Wolf Guard.
Change unit type to Infantry.

Designers Note: Wolf Guard, Nobz, Nobz Warbikers, and Crisis
Shas’vre that lead a unit (for example an Ork Nob leading Ork
Boyz, a Wolf Guard leading Grey Hunters) have the unit type
Infantry (Character).

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Based on the new FAQ, any non-vehicle model with the "Unique" unit type is considered a Character. Bjorn is the only exception to the vehicle portion of the previous statement.

Also, as mentioned above... the Wolf Guard Character issue has been spelled out in the FAQ as well. (Though it was already spelled out in the original 6th ed. C:SW FAQ)
