I will second the earlier Archer mentions, but also throw in that, while only 5 episodes, Danger 5 is worth a watch. Oh, and Life, starring the guy from Band of Brothers and Homeland that I can't think of the name of.

Damian Lewis, I cannot recommend Life enough, even if it was cancelled after two seasons (Grrrr....)

Babylon 5, if no-one has mentioned it, i'll also add to the Farscape recommendations.
I hear Blake's 7 is good but I haven't watched it personally myself, Stargate SG-1 is fantastic.
Moving on from science ficiton, Supernatural as has already been said and that's all I have, wow, I just realised how many non sci-fi shows I haven't watched, I hope its just because I can't remember them atm
EDIT: Another one just came to me, Lie to Me

American Horror Story - The first season was absolutely brilliant, I hope the second season does just as well.
Homeland - I didn't watch this last year when it aired as it seemed like a 24 ripoff to some degree, but I got bored and recently watched it through On Demand, and thought it was great. Damien Lewis is every bit as good in it as he was in Band of Brothers.

Both should have Season 1 DVDs out. Second season of Homeland started this week and looks pretty good so far. American Horror Story season two should be starting shortly.

Sons of Anarchy - I've watched and greatly enjoyed all of the seasons thus far, but I'm having trouble at this point accepting some of the character's sheer stupidity in some of their decision making.

I've got gak loads to watch now mind, I haven't heard of half of these suggestions. Trailer park boys?!

I've added Generation Kill, Breaking Bad, Southland to the eventually watch list though.

I've seen clips of Archer and it doesn't look very funny, I'm hard to please with comedy.

Although, I hated The universally acclaimed "The Office", but I still enjoy "Everybody loves Raymond" strangely... go figure that one out.

Trailer Park Boys is a Canadian comedy about Trailer Trash, of the one episode I've seen I have enjoyed it.

Try watching "Psych" by USA Network.

To quote "You named your fake psychic detective agency...'Psych'? As in 'Gotcha!'?. Really, Shawn?"

There's also ABC's "Castle", but if you didn't enjoy "Firefly" and Captain Mal(Nathan Fillion) you might not enjoy those two.

They're a bit of a tongue in cheek take on procedural cop dramas.

Along those same lines, Nip/Tuck and The Tudors are both rather good. Saying that, I also enjoy Desperate Housewives, so you can pretty much disregard everything I say.

Also, can't believe no-one's mentioned Six Feet Under!

Nip Tuck....... I saw that show when they did the "Carver" season. And was floored at how awesome it was. So the wife and I bought all the seasons that had, thinking they were all going to be badass........we were let down big time. That show is OK, but if I wanted to watch porn, Id watch porn, not the gak on TV

Luckily they seemed to know it was coming and wrapped it up before the axe came down, so at least there is no cliffhanger ending.

Meh, I like it. You are 100% spot-on about the Carver storyline though. It the highlight of the whole show.

Kung Fu. The choreography is pretty awful compared to today, but the show isn't actually about the fighting anyway.

Marty, you Archer?! I, uh, wha....can't help you. Show is amazing. Also, I can't believe I forgot to mention walking dead when I first replied. Show is fantastic. It's one of the top shows on cable right now in America-one of my friends was telling me it was actually #1, but I never checked to see if that was actually true. Watch it. That's an order, soldier!!

I think I'd make a good military commander, with that Internet voice of command.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Dead like me is a pretty good one, Only about 30 episodes or so, but hour long episodes. Dark comedy about a girl who dies and becomes a Grim Reaper.

Star Trek: TNG is a good way to kill about a month.

Edit: Damn. only now do I read the whole thread and see everyone has beaten me to Dead Like Me.

Seriously though, with the amount of interesting plots, stupid redshirt deaths and silly FX, you have to enjoy it.

Futurama?

Although I do second Pokemon.

Boardwalk Empire isn't as good as The Wire and you have to give it a couple of episodes but it grows on you, I found. We're watching it for the second time around (have series one and two) and it's probably even better on a second viewing

The first two seasons of Deadwood are class. the third is pretty bad by comparison, I'd stop at the end ofseason two if I were you.

Generation Kill is short but good.

Beyond HBO, you might try Dollhouse. Two series and complete. It's clever and has many of the same ideas as Firefly (some of the same characters insecondary roles too). Again, I found I had to stick with it for 2-3 episodes to really get into it but it's worth it.

And you can't really go wrong with either Prime Suspect (5 short seasons) or Behind the Lines (3 seasons) if you didn't catch them on tv in the 90s. They've both worn very well, I think.

Follow these two simple rules to ensure a happy Dakka experience:

Rule 1 - to be a proper 40K player you must cry whenever a new edition of the game is released, and always call opposing armies broken when you don't win.

Rule 2 - Games Workshop are always wrong and have been heading for bankrupcy within 5 years since the early 90s.
