Okay then. You are lucky. MOST people hate them, and find they don't work 99.9% of the time. You happen to get them to work, that's cool. We really couldn't care less, because it doesn't change the fact they suck for us. *shrug*

The commissar is too squishy to be of any real use now, but the power blob no longer needs them. Leadership 9 or 10 with ATSKNF is just as good. The commissar has now been replaced by allied MEQ IC.

Power swords are unreliable now as they get wrecked by anything with a 2+ save, but I3 sucks anyways so now blobs have a bunch of S4 AP2 power axes. Against MEQ opponents the change to 6th ed power axes increases power weapon wounds by 50% against MEQ..

Challenges are a problem for IG sergeants, but not so much for a decent SM IC like Vulcan or a beefy space wolf IC.

When it come to CC performance and morale power blobs have nothing to cry about.

Cover saves going from 4+ to 5+ isn't that bad, and wounds going from front to back isn't the end of the world, but the combination of the 2 plus the meta shifting towards more anti infantry weapons is bad news. The meta shift is probably the biggest hit, but then again the types of units that are good at killing guardsmen are usually the types of units blobs are effective at killing.

Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.

Oh, if only that were true.

My conscripts roll BS4, but once I switch over to full guardsmen, their lasguns fire at BS2.

Stupid random trending.

Yeah, but only if you could keep a blob alive long enough to get them into a place where the challenge rules will come into play.

Commissars won't stop a blob from being wiped out due to casualties. Old cover and wound allocation rules did.

The blob still works Ailaros.I've noticed you have a tendency to look at things in a vacuum. If you aren't building your list right and allowing all fire to come at your blob alone you're doing it wrong.

Also the role of blobs has changed with the changes to CC and shooting. Deathstars are going to be less common as people adjust to 6th edition. The change in wound allocation has made two wound deathstars much, much worse. This means power blobs aren't for tying things up and slowly whittling things down in CC. They are an actual support unit and need to be used in that role.

Granted this only applied to pure IG armies. The power blob is insane as an ally, even in armies that aren't brothers-in-arms.

As a side note Ogryns are still solid. Ratlings and Storm Troopers not so much.

I'm thinking of removing jump packs from my unpainted doa army and doing a ba foot horde with allied IG. The blob seems like a safe place to put a priest, and a 50 point ic with pa and atsknf might really help the blob. The blob might be a scary tarpit if I keep a unit of dc nearby to charge anything mean that gets stuck in the blob.
