Especially if the plan is to deepstrike them, since you're going to have to be really lucky and not scatter if you want to be in range to use the flamer the turn they come in.

And at that, I think the Plasma rifle and fusion blaster would be more suited since the range allows for a higher margin of error and makes it easier to catch up to units with 24" range on the plasma rifle. Along with making it more suited for hunting backfield tanks.

I'm expecting an Imperial Knights supplement dedicated to GW's loyalist apologetics. Codex: White Knights "In the grim dark future, everything is fine."

Deep striking without a drop pod or beacon, against a good opponent, is usually a disaster for a variety of reasons anyway.

Tetras and Pathfinder devilfish both allow for a reroll, but even requires a lot of luck.

Thats generally why the missile pod suits are so dominant in Tau lists. Even from turn 1 they're able to cause significant damage and have a hard time not finding a target in range.

That and I've never understood why the Crisis suit is supposed to be a massive weapons platform is reduced the weapon capacity of two guardsmen. In Rogue Trader the Crisis suits are loaded up with serious weaponry and insanely mobile. On the 40K table top they just seem very bland with no unique weapon options.

They have lots of options, just not that many *good* options. But lots of lists have that problem.

I can agree to that. Tau probably have the upper hand since their special weapon teams don't have a single man wasted. All can be equipped to meet the unit's needs and deal out devastating firepower.

My only issue is that it their weapons just seem like the Imperial equivalent. Missile pods are autocannons and Plasma rifles are Plasma guns -1S and without gets hot. They do have their own unique weaponry limited to special issue that I'd like to see get used more often.

I'm actually considering the twin-linked flamer now. It's really the only other weapon that I think gets a bonus from being twin-linked vice increasing BS. The missile pods are better when twin-linked in my opinion just due to their added ability to take down flyers or even to overwatch against a walker or MC. The key problem with the twin-linked flamers is the delivery method and damage output. Against even heavily armored units the damage can be significant. Though Tau have other means of causing massive amounts of mid Strength hits. Suits are indeed fast, but with only being able to move 6" forward before flaming, it requires a lot of precision and luck to get an enemy into spot.

Again, my better judgement tells me that Missile pods would have a more reliable use in a general list. If the CIB and ABFP were available for each suit I could see a unit with all three weapons in one squad and twin-linked to still pose a threat at range.

Maybe missile pods need different ammo like imperial missile launchers. Except make this ammo good, like with a ST 4 "no cover" ammo and a single shot ST 8 AP 2 ammo. If the Sternguard can do it, there's no reason the Tau can't.

Risk ,amagement is a big part of my game. I think we get too tied up worrying about what MIGHT happen and we need to focus more on the benefits we get out of our choices.
