Actually, you hit exactly what the key problem was with the Necrons old fluff. They were literally robotic Tyranids. And when competing to fill the niche of 'ancient all consuming evil', I think 'nids play the role better. I'm willing to bet the design studio moved Necrons in the direction they did largely because of this fact.

Also to be fair, the new lore does not preclude you from playing OldCron armies. C'Tan can and do escape their shards, and then seek vengeance against their former slaves for their impertinence. It's very possible, using the latest Codex: Necron, to play an OldCron-style army. To its benefit, however, you are not straight-jacketed into playing this style.

There is a tomb world that is exactly like the Oldcrons, with the problems in their minds making it so that they are trying to force everyone else to be converted into the OldCron
The Empire of the Severed is that one.
However there is one dynasty that has been infected by a virus by the Eldar with the Flayer Virus, Oroskh Dynasty. Which shows that they CAN be corrupted by outside influences now.

No, the C'Tan called the Flayer was destroyed completely destroyed, and put a curse on the Necrons that killed him. so it pretty much already existed, no outside influence required.

Read Page 10: Oroskh Dynasty.
"The worlds ruled by the Oroskh Dynasty are heavily infected by the flayer virus -- the result of a deliberate contamination conducted by the pathfinders from the Alaitoc craftworld. Year by year, the Oroskh tomb worlds' population shrink further as ever more necrons devolve into flayed ones."
It may have existed by the C'tan, but spread somehow by the pathfinders of Eldar...Actually I kinda wanna know how now.

I love the "Oh there's like three sentences that state there is a single Tomb World just like the oldcrons" argument.
If the Grey Knights were retconned into being Slaanesh-corrupted Eldar-violating child molesters, but there was three lines stating "Oh but there is like a single Company of Grey Knights who stay true to their origins", the codex would be derided as the piece of gak it is.
While the newcron codex isn't nearly as bad as Slaaneshi Grey Knights would be, all the old fluff being compressed into a single footnote put in at an afterthought barely even qualifies as a pittance for an oldcron player. This isn't the thread for that.
And good for you, you've proven that the Flayer Virus, as created by a dying C'tan, can infect Necrons which... We already know. Now prove Chaos can.

Yes, you can spread an existing Necron infection, but you cant create a new one. thats my point. you need to work on your listening skills. but very good argument

I don't see what all the fuss is about. The fluff hasn't changed that much. I've obviously missed something regarding their fleets, since "The entire black templar fleet just managed to strip the shields off a tomb ship" doesn't sound like "the black templars slaughtered the Necron fleet" to me, and I can't find where it says they've lost their Inertialess Drives. The only propulsion system mentioned in the whole book is the Night Scythes' screaming jets. The rest of it?
Old Fluff:
Ancient race of stunted, short-lived tech-heads find a way to trap the energy being feeding off their star in a metal body, and in return are taught how to transfer their own souls. Necron(tyr) worship C'tan as gods for this gift, C'tan direct them to attack Old Ones, Necrons almost win but get beaten at the last moment by Harlequin trickery and go to sleep.
New Fluff:
Ancient race of stunted, short-lived tech-heads get caught up in a war against the Eldar. They're getting their arses kicked until they find a way to trap the energy being feeding off their star in a metal body. They take what the C'tan can offer them, then turn their technology back on the C'tan and break them down into weapons. They almost win, but show mercy when the Silent King has a crisis of faith, probably induced by Harlequin trickery, and tells all the Necrons to go to sleep.
The most disappointing thing about the new fluff is that there's no mention of the Mars run, and the few extra holes that need to be filled with "Harlequins did it."
