So would you take the heavy bolter or heavy flamer on an ordnance equipped leman russ?

Flamer. A BS 1 HB will never do anything useful (especially at the targets a LR usually shoots at) while a HF can potentially be very useful in the right situation.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

In the case of the demolisher, I'd probably go with the heavy flamer. There is no synergy whatever between the hull weapon option and the main gun, nor any true versatility available. Plus, odds are good you're already in very close with the demolisher.

I suppose the one thing really going against the heavy flamer is the fact that demolishers are heavy now. For how little use a heavy bolter is going to be to a demolisher cannon, I can't see how often you're really going to be able to get many hits in with a weapon of such limited range on such a slow delivery system.

The real question is if you should take the lascannon or not, which, I don't know, I guess I would? It would give the demolisher something to do while out of range with the main gun, and snap firing DOES hit now and again.

Is it possible to make a mech guard list around them? They're cheap but kinda crappy, though I have four of them (don't ask). Should I wait until they're viable, or hunt for alternate cannons on ebay?

Shelve them and use manticores instead. ;]

Problem with using them as Vanquishers is that I'd have to proxy the sponsons as none of them have sponsons (I bought them on ebay).

I already have an executioner with sponsons so I might try to pick up a few punisher cannons to go with it.

Yes cause we all have the money to just let our Russes sit and buy overpriced ($ not points) Manticores. Besides a Russ isn't out of things to do by turn 5.

You don't really need to run a Vanquisher with sponsons. Just slap a lascannon on them and you're not in a terribad position. If it really comes down to it, buy the sponson bits and just glue them on.

This.

I see a lot of players adding the MM sponsons to Demolishers and Vanquishers but I don't see the point unless it's on a Paskquisher or Paskterminator so it can shoot with more chance of hitting.

Add it to the Demolisher and you're hitting on 6's when you fire the big gun. 30 points wasted imo. The Vanquisher is long range so again, 30 points wasted as you really don't want to get close to the enemy lines with it.

I could be wrong though as I haven't tested the Vanquisher yet.

I've toyed with the Vanquish at home games and it's pretty simple.

No pask...it's very meh.

With Pask it's awesome. The BS bump alone is worth it. Also most boards are 4'x4' or 6'x4', played on the widest side, which leaves the narrow point inbetween the players, so general 12" in on both side and you can be inside MM range within a turn or two, give or take for deployment.
