Didn't i read somewhere that some tau units can make a consolidation move after Overwatch but before the charge hits?

Seems to me that could help with causing charges to fail.

Only granted by one fairly expensive special Pathfinder character (although he can join a Firewarrior unit). He's an HQ choice, so you would have to drop the Ethereal or Crisis commander to get that ability for one unit.

I think that this gives a much needed boost to tau to protect from CC. I think mixing up marker drones is a good idea as well. Cool battle report.

I don't understand why the DA player took two PFGs when he could have just gained the same effect by riding the Black Knights alongside the LRC for the same effect. Because tau pack tons of power weapons in CC?

I don't get why the DA player thought riding his bikes up against the entire tau army when the only other thing to shoot was a LR a good idea, or charging with a 2/12 chance of making it against quadruple overwatch.

I didn't want the bikes to have to stick around the Landraider. It would take away the thing I like most about DA bikes, just how fast they can threaten an opponent. It would mean sacrificing 18' of movement turn one (12" scout and 6" in the movement phase). As we both said neither of us knew what army we were going to be facing that night. I think I would not have taken Black Knights at all if I knew I was playing against Tau. Like I said I think playing against CSM a lot had instilled the fear of ap 3 template weapons in my a little to much and my list reflects this, agaisnt any other army the 4++ isn't needed.

I felt like the safest place for my bikes was in CC, the charge was actually a 9" charge when I made it (before he killed any of my bikes) and like Yakface pointed out I didn't really fully understand what I was doing. I knew he was going to get a lot of overwatch, I didn't realize how effective the markerlight rolling was going to be. I also knew I couldn't stand another round of fire from that many Tau. I had got really lucky last turn with my saves and still lost half of my bikes. Even if I got just as lucky I would still be all out of bikes. So I took a chance charging with the bikes and it didn't pay off, but if I had made the charge I think the bikes might have lived to see better days. I actually don't like taking the PFG into CC because it gives the 4++ to my opponent, but this actually would have worked in my favor this times as I didn't really want to kill the kroot all that fast, I wanted to hide there and hit and run away to better unit next turn.

As far as not moving my bikes up. I guess I could have hid them and tried to exploit a mistake made by yakface, but I didn't really see that happening. The bikes have half the range of most of the Tau, and shorter range than his whole army. They had to get close or do nothing. I knew they were going to take heavy loses but once they got into CC i figured that were going to be pretty safe.

It occurs to me that you could take broadsides then jump a commander with the puretide chip in with them if you face heavy armor. That would make you ST 9, AP1 effectively- with a few markerlight hits that give 3 broadsides a pretty good chance to wax a landraider in 2 turns of shooting.

Tank hunter is re-roll to pen not +1 damage vs vehicles. Heavy rail rifles are not the answer to land raiders - long strikes railgun or a fusion blaster suit are our best chances.

Been out of the game for awhile, trying to find time to get back into it.

Hey, I recognize this game! I didn't know what your Dakka handles were, Goatman and Yakface.

You can see my sexy legs in the batrep pics, turn 3. Rawr.

Cool batrep! Here is the one I wrote that I was telling you about, looks like it's still on the first page here

I've got a couple others floating around here, too.

Hey I had actually read that report a few days before (but didn't know it was yours)...very cool indeed! Great models and terrain.

I realize later that when Sergio asked me if vehicles are denial units...I screwed up and said yes they are denial units...but they're not...unless (debateably) they are a fast attack/heavy support choice in a Scouring/Big Guns Never Tire mission respectively. Whoops!

Thanks! Yeah, stop by my place for a game sometime! I have a decent setup. Have an urban setup and a grassy field setup.

All good. I also realized it was incorrect later on when I got home. We're all still trying to figure 6th out, and it didn't affect the game a great deal in any case!
