I don't know what the rest of the season will bring, but as a Pens fan I have to say it's nice to be 10 points up on the Flyers only 7 games into the season.

Philly is definitely off to a rough start. Buffallo as well. I don't like seeing teams do so horribly, but at the same time I'm perfectly fine with them bombing since I now share a conference/division with them.

Yep. 5 games. Kronwall should be back Wednesday, and Helm on Saturday. Looking forward to Helm getting back. His speed has been sorely missed.

Lappie's hit was dangerous... See my earlier youtube post. It wasn't the kind of hit you knew he wanted to smear brain matter all over the ice. He still should've held up.

Exactly Whembly. Lappierre could have let up, he didn't, and he put Boyle into an extremely dangerous situation. Anytime they've gotta stretcher someone of the ice in a situation like that, suspensions are not a joke.

Discussing the topic on FS-D tonight, and they pointed out that todays skaters are bigger, and faster then ever. The hits are harder then in the past, and injuries are going to be more frequent. Shanahan has to come down heavy handed on this stuff to get it across to the players. Slow the hell down when your coming into the boards.

Feth me that was a nail-biter of a game, but I noticed two things, and someone that might have been watching it on more than just a little computer screen could tell me.
1) There didn't seem to be that many power plays/penalties
2) There weren't a lot of hits going on in the game, is this because the West is so fast that there isn't much time for hits? It seems that the West plays faster hockey and the East plays harder hitting hockey (not that the Sens do the latter very well).

Varlamov is allowed to travel with the team. The Judge just put $5,000 bail for him, which shoulda been easy for him to clear, and gave him permission to leave the state, but I guess there was a restraining order established as well.

Granted, this is sure to mess with his head a bit, so I wouldn't be surprised to see Giguere in the net tomorrow.

Oof, that's a bummer for them.
