I think it interesting how many people are posting their excuses.

"What's your excuse?" is basically "What's your problem?" reworded in a more passive aggressive manner.
Also, it kinda feels like it has the unspoken suffix of "fatass" on the end... even if the word isn't there, the implication definitely is.
It's not really intended to be motivational, she could easily have said "I did it, and so can you!" or something else instead of taking the negative route.
Except of course its in the same style and structure I've seen of every other gym and instructor. Whats your beef?

She got the attention she wanted by being a jerk.
"Excuse" is a convenient way of deflecting criticism since it all can be labeled away no matter what answer.
I can say I have lost as many pounds as she presently weighs and ask the same question back: was it really that hard for her? Really?
Rather hollow achievement other than looking good to begin with.

As someone who takes care of himself very well, I have to go ahead and defend the woman in the photo. I've been hearing a lot of people bitch and complain about this, but the message is totally true and she makes a good point. Sure it's blunt, but the world needs to stop walking on eggshells around fat people - it's gone on long enough and it's now a major problem for the West. Barring physical problems or sickness, people have no excuse for being obese/overweight. It's brought on by poor diet and sloth - both of those things are choices people make. I say again - people choose to eat poorly, and not physically exert themselves. I spend an hour at the gym every day, that's 4% of each day exercising. It's not much time if people just prioritize it over sitting on their asses watching sports or bad shows on TV or having a food binge session. The obesity issues plaguing the Western world are pathetic and it all boils down to lazy people who don't want to sweat a little bit and can't resist very unhealthy foods. Oh and I'm aware that this is a wargaming forum and lots of people here may be heavy, but this is my opinion and I'm entitled to it. Think about that before quoting me with the intention of flaming me.

I'm sorry, but that right there is what people get upset about. People who are lucky enough to have time to go to the gym on a regular basis being sanctermonius about it. Saying its easy. Now, I'm not over weight, I eat well, and I do think many people could do more. However attitudes like yours help no one. An hour a day is a lot of time. I leave for work at 7:30am, get home from work at 6:30pm. By the time I have cooked, eaten, had a wash, done the other little bits I have to do it is 8-8:30 pm. This is not unusual. Now, I could go to the gym for an hour and comeback and go strait to bed, but that would be my life Monday to Friday. And I don't have kids. If going to the gym is something you enjoy and your hobby, fine, but most people have other things they want to do, or they want to relax for an hour or two after working hard all day.
It's the same with this woman. She can do that because she is paid to. She is telling other people they can achieve what she has but they have other things in life. Most people are not able to spend all day getting fit. It's like the rich man telling a single mum working 60hours they just need to work harder.

I'm not sure why we are acting as if she was attacking "fatties" (which is insulting enough already), when as far as I can tell she is being an ass to anyone not fitness instructor level fit. It isn't being confrontational to the obese, it is being confrontational to those whose lives don't revolve around working out. I agree that attack is probably to strong a word, but her language was definitely aggressive, which makes people defensive. If she had worded it differently this probably wouldn't have been an issue, and probably been better for her business. Instead of "What's you excuse" she should have gone with "Even after three kids I was able to do this, and you can too! Let me help you!".
1 hour is still not much time to save them from destruction
That is a silly argument. You can spend three hours a day at a gem and you can still be destroyed. Certainly it is better to be healthy then not, but it doesn't save anyone from 'destruction'; no one gets out of here alive, no matter how fit. The better argument is quality of life, not that you are going to die. And Steve specifically said if that is how you want to spend your one free hour a day that is perfectly fine, but some people might want to paint, or read a book, or post on Dakka. He never said it couldn't be done, just that given a finite amount of time in a day not everyone wants to spend their limited free time at the gym.

Fair point there.
In my example, I pay a horrific amount of money to go to a gym just a few floors below me. But if I didn't, I wouldn't.

By my calculations you don't have time to get a proper nights sleep in that time. If your working at 5 am and getting home at 9pm your getting a maximum of 7 hours sleep. That's assuming you are lucky to live close enough to work it could be less. Your presumably young and enjoy going to the gym, but for most people that is just not a sustainable routine.
I don't know what your talking about a smoke screen. I didn't say anything about food because that's not what the thread is about. And I'm not disagreeing with you about people eating unhealthily. I'm just saying the routine your suggesting is not practical for most people. It completely neglects family, relaxation, sleep and the other practicalities of life. Being out of the house from 4:30 (at a guess if you start at 5am) until 9pm is not practical for most people.
As a student you might be able to keep that up, but long term, once your start having a real job that leaves you mentally exhausted and a familily you want to spend time with that hour is just not there like you think it is now.

Dude you don't know what the feth a full day is.
Please tell me how operating for 18+ hours isn't a full day? Gtfo buddy. *rolls eyes*
You're not doing 18+ hours a day. You're doing a part time job, farting around and then doing some evening classes.
Way to oversimplify pal. I won't fall for the bait though.

I spend an hour at the gym every day, that's 4% of each day exercising. It's not much time
I'm sorry, but that right there is what people get upset about. Now, I could go to the gym for an hour and comeback and go strait to bed, but that would be my life Monday to Friday. And I don't have kids. If going to the gym is something you enjoy and your hobby, fine, but most people have other things they want to do, or they want to relax after working hard all day.
It's the same with this woman. She can do that because she is paid to. She is telling other people they can achieve what she has but they have other things in life. Most people are not able to spend all day getting fit. It's like the rich man telling a single mum working 60hours they just need to work harder.
When someone is at serious risk of death because they are obese/overweight, 1 hour is still not much time to save them from destruction. Let's also consider that diet is the absolute key factor in being obese/overweight. I notice you didn't comment on that part. Sorry, the smokescreen you have put up isn't good enough.
And by the way, I have a full day just like you. I work 5am - 1:30 pm, hit the gym, then go off to my campus to sit in classes until I'm home at 9pm.

This is the day:
I wake up at 4am, shower and dress, I'm out by 4:45am. I work until 1:30pm, I'm at the gym by 2pm. I work out until 3, sometimes 3:30, come home and shower, then I'm on the bus to school for the evening. I actually get less sleep than you thought, I run on about 4 - 5 hours a night. I've been doing it for years though, I'm very used to it. I'm 24, and I do understand I have an advantage because of that. Let's cut out my evening and assume I don't have lectures to attend. That's a whole lot of spare time to screw around with! Not to mention days off work like weekends and such.
edit - looks like someone QQed to the bosses of the site and got my signature removed. Unbelievable, people.

Then maybe you should say it differently.
Did you know thin, young people die as well? There are also lots of older fat people as well, it is just they have more problems then those who are not. More likely a doctor will tell you to lose weight or face a whole host of issues, diseases, and harm that you would most likely not have to face otherwise. I think we also need to dfine what we mean by fat here as well. Being on the internet can mean that Kate Upton is considered a fatty.

Nope. You didn't say how many hours you putzed around between work and school. You also didn't say if you did that every day.
