World Eaters. I love implausible tactics, and theirs is the greatest implausible tactic in the entire universe. Why shoot at the enemy, even though they're firing huge shells that wreck all this gak up and these massive gatling guns attached to a gigantic iron structure when you can hit things with an axe or sword?

Blood angels-because they're just like "fugg it...LEEROY JENKINNNNS!!!" and jump out of any flying thing the chapter owns.
Space wolves-even though I hate their primarch they are still vikings in space..."BARBARIANS!!!"(whilst swinging an axe+sword into someone)
Pre-heresy thousand sons-They were and looked cool and also only turned heretic because their primarch made a mistake and so the space wolves were let loose on them.
All in All three pretty good armies.

I like Emperor's Children for their focus on perfection, carefully thought-out manoeuvres and cold efficiency.

Iron Warrios are the masters of siege warfare and have loads of heavy-duty stuff, which is awesome.

Raven Guard are experts of lightning-fast precision strikes and stealth, surprisingly reasonable for Spess Mehreens.

I surprised myself in actually picking four! FOUR! Crazy. Well my choices are;

Alpha Legion: Infiltration, espionage, misdirection, stealth and all those other subverssive means of completing the goal. Plus they're not actually Chaos as such. Honest.

Imperial Fists: The Imperial Fists marry-up nicely with my love of the Death Korps, obviously with the Imperial Fists displaying the more defensive side of siege warfare. I like 'em, to me they truly reinforce the ideology that to overcome a fortified position you need odds of 10:1 in the attackers favor. Now if that defender happens to be an Astartes.

White Scars: The White Scars epitomise, to me, the rapid, manouverable hit & run ethos of the Astartes. Get in quick, complete the objective, get back out or hold until Imperial Guard units can reinforce/take over. They're the 'cavalry' Legion/Chapter of the Astartes and I like them for that.

Legion of the Damned: This one should be obvious - they turn up unexpected, unannounced upon the battlefield like a horde of ghosts and proceed to hammer anything within range. When the battle is won or the danger has passed, they just leave. I rather like that spectral aspect to them.

I gotta say Raven Guard. Because their tactics are a product of warfare not of some fluff armor able to accomplish any task (useless fething Ultramarines).

Space Wolves
I chose the space wolves because they are the most badass and just have gaks and gigs, no matter how bad the situation one of them cracks a joke.
When they were a legion they were thought as unruly, smelly undisciplined savages which in fact is quite the opposite.
They did smell and did have a disregard for rules and regulations but they were the most disciplined of all, they're induction and training were the most extreme by far and they were the Emperor's executioners. They had been set upon the Thousand Sons legion and it is hinted in other books that this was not the first time they had been used against a legion. They are the most fearsome of all the Chapters of the current millennium and they're long standing feud against the Inquisition is a likeable aspect for me, I like the inquisition as in the
Grey Knights as in how pure and powerful they are, but the inquisition are dirty, dark and scheming. The Wolves Primarch is my favourite of the 18 because of his fearlessness of anything he opposes and his humour towards anything also, his disregard of threats and that he can be merciful even in the darkest of hours. Favourite Character - Bjorn the Fell Handed

Luna Wolves (for reasons stated), Alpha Legion (fairly modern combat doctrine that focuses on mobility, efficiency, and independence that won't suffer from losses in the chain of command.), and Night Lords- because black ops terror tactics are the best black ops.

I would have also put Raven Guard, but they're pretty much the same as Night Lords, while different in some areas, they both focus on utilization of Assault Marines to maximum and mobility.

Honorable mention of the Legion of the Damned, but they're not really a Legion of Chapter anymore. They're a force of nature that never fails.

I picked three.

World Eaters, because the legion pretty much damned itself after finding their broken Primarch and then hammering a highly dangerous cybernetic implant into their heads, that reduces them to frothing at the mouth bezerkers. Hell its a simple and brutal way of warfare but its damn well effective.

Legion of the Damned, Reasons already been stated.

Salamanders, purely because they are one of the very few, if not only chapters/Legions that stay in touch with their families and have a very "human" way of thinking, despite all their augmentations they haven't lost their humanity like other Astartes.

I voted for the Iron Hands. Logic above all.

Also, the Raven Guard and Alpha Legion are awesome as well with all their covert operations and sneakiness.

The worst has to be the Black Templars. Their only tactic is 'Charge it until it is dead'. Heroic maybe, but not very smart, and thus not very cool.

I voted only once and voted for Space Wolves, as did so many other of you as they seem to be in third place. Russ would be proud. They are the only imperial army I have ever considered collecting. A long time ago they were described to me as Space Vikings and that is how I still see them.

They employ a very brutal version of shock and awe. They come in, hit extremely hard and with a brutality that strikes fear into the hearts of their foe. So much that only the most diehard/fanatical of their enemies would even contemplate continuing the fight. Then they pull out leaving the innocent to get back to their lives. And while the fighting may have been brutal and savage, the actual attack was done with extreme planning and care. They don't play the attrition game, Nor do they just attack blindly from the edge. They strike with daring into the heart of the enemy where the damage will be greatest and most devastating.

They stick their young ones where they have to prove themselves in a hurry. The front lines. Where it becomes obvious fairly quickly who will make it into legend and who will not. They understand that if your going to send an advanced party to scout or even sneak in the back door, you better send someone who knows what they are doing. SW scouts are all vets, because when your knocking on the back door, you want someone who knows where to put their boot. They reward their grizzled vets with the safer positions of Long Fangs, where you get to hang back out of the main frey, but your leadership and battle experance shines through as they know what to hit first with the more powerful ranged weapons. CC is a young mans game. However, each knows that death is not the end, its just redeployment to a different eternal battlefield.

The drinking, singing, etc. is just frosting on the cake.

Thing with hitting it until it dies is that if you hit hard enough, who needs tactics?!?

Raven Guard and Blood Angels: God I love jump packs!

White Scars: "So you want to destroy the Empire. The wheels of my motocycle have to disagree by crushing your traitor skull"

Alpha Legion: We have sabotaged your vehicles, your weapons, you comunicatons, your suply routes and, just for the case, also provoqued a civil uprising. You could still try to put up a fight but notice that we have also bribed half of your army and the full of your personal guard. Simply lovely, at least fluffwise. I can imagine the oposing generals crying.

coolest has to be the Thousand sons. just the sheer potential of phycic attacks, i mean, they only lost to the SW because Magnus refused to fight unbtil the very end and even then half heartly..

the most impressive for sheer amazing goes to the BA or the Ultramarines.. i mean can you imagine 120,000 men with jump packs deep striking into the middle of say the emperors children? UTTER carnage...

saying that the world eaters are my favourite old legion, they are just so BONKERS they are cool

The ultramarines are quite clearly the most professional, as such, they get my vote, and the always have done.

You can tell none of the black library writers were combat soldiers, the Ultramarines would have fared better, and Gulliman, (I've just finished unremembered empire), humble, disciplined, sensible, grounded, professional, Gulliman, would have ate the vast majority of his emo brothers for breakfast.

Look how fethed up Curze is, and he waltzes through them all! Gulliman uses the practice cages and trains regularly, when does Curze hit the gym?

It would be like putting an SF operator in the field against a goth with a drug problem and severe deep rooted emotional issues.

Get your money on the professional soldier.

That to me just says Guilliman is bad. He trains and works hard all the time and gets beaten by whoever with ease who doesn't train. Just goes to show how bad Guilliman actually is. Its like putting a aging advisor from ancient Greece, n the army, training himon how to fight and putting him in a 1vs1 agains a Spartan.

To start this off, I picked three and all three have one big thing in common: they are all psykers. The three I picked are Grey Knights, Thousand Sons and Blood Ravens. I just like the thought of the mind being the best way to beat their opponents and all three do this. To turn your mind into your weapon and armor is just something that has always been attractive to me. All three venerate knowledge in the most sacred of ways. Every single Thousand Son was a scholar, the Grey Knights use all their forbidden knowledge of Chaos and the warp to counter-act their opponents and well the Blood Ravens motto is "Knowledge is power, guard it well".

Grey Knights: What I like about them best is they way they use their psyker powers. They don't use it in a big bombastic way, they channel inwards to buff themselves and use it as protection against Chaos. They use their psyker powers and their faith to create a shield against corruption and the dangers of the warp. Its almost the way psyker powers should be used to prevent corruption but still be able to gain benefits of being a psyker. Also, they are apart of the Inquisition and that is one of my more favored aspects of the Imperium.

Thousand Sons: They were the original all psyker space marine legion who saw knowledge as the greatest power source. Now they did use psyker powers in bombastic ways but their battle doctrine was always carefully planned and used the powers of divination to get an edge on their enemy and counter them with adapted tactics. Its almost ironic that it was their pursuit of knowledge no matter the circumstances is what eventually would lead to their downfall.

Blood Ravens: They are similar enough to the Thousand Sons in battle doctrine venerating Librarians to the point of making the Chapter Masters and having their own huge repository of knowledge in their Monastery as well on every single Battle Barge as well.

Yup, using knowledge to out smart your opponent as well as turn it into direct defense or offense.
