'Cuz the GW models are cluttered, overly busy, and Impractical? While the Cuboid chap is a much more minimalistic, practical looking model.

Matter of opinions and there is a line between being simple and looking like a N64 character , which mantic has certainly crossed on that model [IMO]

I suppose cost might well come into it, but I like both of them.. they are a very different aesthetic, for different game universes and different games. Some people like the Enforcers because they are more minimalistic (in fact, like a lot of the marine range used to be!) but it's down to personal preference.

But also, I don't think it has to be 'either/or'.

I don't think the Mantic model is bad at all, but it has nothing on those Marines. They are awesome.

Exactly, matter of Opinion. I personally like the minimalist design better than the blinged-out swag suits of those space marines.

Also, let's have no disparaging remarks about the N64! That was a wonderful machine, and should be remembered with respect

Think the current generation of GW skellies are quite nice - certainly better than the previous 'big head' versions. Probably don't think there is a lot in it between the GW and Mantic ones, but the price difference (especially considering the numbers you are talking about for either WFB or KoW) makes the Mantic ones a no-brainer. Same too for the ghouls and zombies. If you're making an undead-themed army, for any system, you're better off saving your pennies for some lovely character pieces from GW, Gamezone, or Avatars of War or something. Then, you can buy another army (or three!) with the money you've saved.

I'm talking about the current ranges of GW skellies, but any criticism of the "big head" ones needs to take into account that those sculpts were made over 25 years ago. I've picked up an absolute ton of Mantic undead models this year, but I'm still going to pick up some modern GW ones to round out the army with a bit of variety.

Perhaps someone looking for more hard sci-fi, "realistic" (granted I use the word loosely) futuristic space soldiers as opposed to the far more fantastical Space Marines? I dunno, I look at the Mantic guy and think that if humans ever make actual functional power armor it might look more like the Enforcer.

That's what I was saying mate (read the first sentence again! )

The 'big heads' were actually the 2nd plastic skeleton kit from GW. There was another one released before, early 90's I believe, which had much finer proportions -remember the boxset that came with spears, archers and a chariot. The ones with the large heads/hands/weapons I think probably came with the current range of zombies maybe soon after 2000 or so?

Although I actually think the 2nd generation ones weren't too bad, I did some conversions on them years ago with Bretonnians which bulked out the bodies a bit, and made them look a bit less comical

Those Bretonian Undead are excellent Pacific - strange that in 25+ years of gaming I never thought to use them as well, so I think that I will give that a go [idea stolen!].

They remind me allot of my favourite Undead figures - The Nightmare Legion by Citadel -

Back to the topic or off topic at hand, GW hit the ball out of the park at their first attempt on skellies IMHO (as referred to be Pacific). The Skeleton Horde plastics from the late 80's/early 90's were as good as any now (okay the arms were a bit samey). True they are very thin bit no less robust for it, had a range of weapons (including bows!), optional armour and could be sat on steeds. A remastered boxed set of these (and the horses!) would make my day. Not bad for 25+ year old sculps.

Most of may Undead are from this range and I still have tonnes on the sprue - it still irks me that Skeleton archers were removed from the WHFB army books.

The N64 is great but looking back it was really lacking in polygon count [even more-so than the PS1 IMO]
