Are you for serious right now
Funny how you pick that. Cannot answer so you pick the least important sentence. Typical liberal tactic. Ignore my points and jump to getti ng your feelings hurt. Thanks for proving my point.
Me? Whine? To be perfectly honest, the only person I hear who is whining is you. There are a lot of people whining about the setting not moving forward. Really, get over it, it is just a game, a hobby.
Also, what GW did with Tycho is a good way of solving it, but it can only be done to a limited extent.
Otherwise we would end up with horribly long codices full of dead special characters.
Also, 40k is more than just a 'game'. It is a hobby in which people have invested a lot of money. So people have a right to be angry about it.
And as to the Squats, they were killed off in the fluff by having their worlds eaten by Tyranids.
And please stop acting like an immature jerk.[/q
All right King Fan Boy. I just said I'd like to see an advance of the time line.. so in no place was I actually wining. I was criticizing the cry babies who are so angry now that they can't use their squats which weren't selling that's why they were killed offer story if you really think that's wining boy ? I could tell you to grow up but you're only acting your real age 13 id guess.ou really should I grow up a little bit it's just a hobby doesn't mean you have to get angry over it if you want to control the timeline why don't you go get a job working there instead of just using your mommy and daddy's money to go buy your little toys but I don't expect anything more from children like you actually you went with the old I'm rubber you're glue tactic which was very laughable but at least thanks for pointing out with the squads we're finally killed of that is actually answer the question that I did ask but the other part where it forces you to play like everything is happening exactly for Canon of the books that doesn't exist you have the freedom to play anytime you want a 40 K that's what's nice about it but I wouldn't assume little fan boys like you could think on your own without you know GW telling you what stories you need to believe

Bringing up Squats. .. plesse point out the fluff where they were wiped out by necrons or marines..? They were simply eliminated. Mostlikely they weren't making GW any money. The next point. As too dead characters suddenly maki g all models useless. Ex. Captain tycho. He is dead put you can play hom still. Where is the rule your army has to play like ots the most recent "date" in the 41M. My chapter of spacemarines is dead according to the books. Put I still play them. You csn plsy in the same stagnant boring universe where nothing ever changes. I'd like to see some new fluff every few Years.
The Squat Homeworlds were eaten by Tyranids.

How is it suddenly worthless just because they move the time line up? I.E. Tycho as stated above I dead and you can field him. Your arguement has no grounds other thsn you fear change.

You obviously don't remember the global freak-out when 2nd Edition AD&D was released, when 3rd Edition AD&D was released or when 4th Edition AD&D was released, and how people, to this very day, will declare that a game that does not have THAC0 is not "true D&D".

This is demonstrably untrue. The Squats sold as well as many other armies of the era, armies which are still in the setting today. Poor sales had nothing to do with their removal. That this keeps getting repeated year after year tells me that the person saying it doesn't actually remember the era of the Squats.
As it goes, Forgotten Realms is the most-generic of the D&D settings, and is actually from a tertiary IP (Greyhawk being, historically, the traditional "standard" D&D setting, now replaced by Eberron in 4th edition), It also moves forward only if its playerbase does, but there are *plenty* of D&D players who will not touch anything FR-related if it's post-Godswar. I'm one such player, because everything after that point (and much of the stuff leading up to that point) is objectively terrible. There are many, many D&D players who won't touch anything FR-related because of its preponderance of Mary Sue characters.

I think the point he's trying to make with the Advanced Dungeons and Dragons is that the creators still went ahead with their changes and advancements. People were pissed off, but their complaining didn't do a damn thing, and people still play DnD. Whereas some of the people in this thread are suggesting that a change to the status quo will spell the doom for the entire franchise, somehow.

You mean like the 2nd Edition to 3rd Edition 40k freak out? So forth and so on? We're talking story by the way, not rules.
The Forgotten Realms is a setting and its story has advanced over the years. Dragonlance is a setting, and its story has advanced over the years.
There is nothing that GW could introduce as new that would hurt the gameplay. They manage to advance the timeline in Fantasy, albeit slowly, but they still do it, and the world has not ended.

You're absolutely right. It didn't take long to realize the Star Wars extended universe was a crap fest of the crappiest crap to ever be crapped, and I stopped wasting my time.
Star Wars EU is hit or miss, but it has a few enjoyable ones (especially back when I was a teenager reading them). You seem to be a depressed, angry, bitter and hypercritical curmudgeon to pretty much every fantasy/sci-fi IP. Maybe you should switch to switch to reading encyclopedias and dictionaries only, you may not find them as offensive.

That's your gaming circle, not the worldwide hobbybase of D&D players as a whole. I've been playing Dungeons and Dragons since it came in a red cardboard box and was produced by TSR. I bought my first set of dice for it in 1984. You're taking your experiences with your local group and trying to apply them to the hobby as a whole, which is... erroneous. There has long been resistance to changing any aspect of D&D.
But the most important aspect of the game is that, at its core.... it's a setting, not a story. D&D is generic fantasy gaming. Its worlds, just like 40K, are for you to create and populate. Its narratives are for you and your group to forge. If you meet another D&D player, it is nigh-inevitable that a conversation involving the cool things your characters did around a table. This, incidentally, is less-interesting to the person who was not involved in the game in which that happened, because imagination doesn't work that way.
I really just like getting your fanboys goats. TOO funny watching you guys get so pissed off and defensive about game. so if you wanna respond I'm going to not follow this post anymore cause you kids are pathetic. Go cry on your mommy's shoulder.

It seem that "its setting not story" is some kind of mantra. But it doesnt mean story (!!!) of the setting cannot move on. VtM went after years into final Gehenna apocalypse and it didnt hurt it. Im not saying we must go to Nids nomnom everything, but when you have setting full of hints, its nice to move few steps forward.

Actually, it pretty much killed the game, which was waning in popularity anyway. VtR didn't do much better, which is why they've started re-releasing VtM stuff a few years ago.

Well, D&D does not have a cohesive story (neither does 40K). D&D is *entirely* a "game of heroics" that allows players to "forge their own narrative". In a sense, this is what 40K is intended to be.
Sure, there are D&D novels, and there are novels written by R. A. Salvatore that tell you the tales of Elminster and Drizzt and.... whatever the hell the other cardboard-cutouts were called... and the Dragonlance series which makes Black Library seem like William fething Shakespeare.... and some other D&D novels... but none of these things are intended, in any way, to be reflected in the actual D&D RPG unless you choose to incorporate their elements into your games. So it is with the FR campaign books or the Greyhawk campaign books or the Dark Sun campaign books.... these are settings for your personal D&D games that allow you to forge your own narrative, they are not books that tell you "this is what happens and it must be this way". That's not how an RPG works.

I'd love to see the plot advance. With all the 'staged scenarios' current in the fluff, it would be very interesting to push it forward past those scenarios. This could show outcomes of major plot points...create some new heroes for new Independant Characters...and move on to another 'setting'. You don't even need to eliminate any current major characters, bring in new ones with a powerful history mentioned and have them eliminated.
It isn't hard to do, and I don't think it would be detrimental.

If they were going to do that, then they need to stick by their promise regarding the 13th Black Crusade.
Cadia is nearly wiped clean, Creed is getting his ass kicked across the planet, Horus has boots (lots and lots and lots of boots) on the ground, and there are Chaos Warships leaving the Eye of Terror at their leisure to raid, strike and pillage across the Imperium.

Seriously everyone - RULE #1.
http://www.dakkadakka.com/core/forum_rules.jsp
Rule 1: Be Polite
This seems obvious, however many folks can sometimes forget that common courtesy goes a long way to lending respect to both you and your opinions. Just because you don't see the other users' faces doesn't mean they don't have feelings and won't be hurt by rude comments or offensive images. When you see something that you find silly, rude or insulting first assume that perhaps there is more to it than you initially thought. Look at it again, keeping in mind that tone and inflection is difficult to convey in a visual format. It may be that the person is attempting a joke or is exaggerating on purpose. It is best to politely request clarification before accusing someone being ignorant, a liar, or worse.
If after clarification you still disagree with the person then politely outline your points. Try to avoid name-calling or even implying insults wherever possible. These tactics generally only inflame a situation and lead to what are known as "Flame Wars." Whenever a flame war starts it usually ruins a perfectly good discussion. Others will lose interest in the thread and the site in general if this kind of interchange becomes a common occurrence.
Please remember that posting and reading online is a visual format and as such the spelling, grammar and look of your posts is the only way others understand what you are saying. Therefore, in order to be polite, all users are expected to make an effort to use proper spelling, grammar and punctuation and should refrain from using internet shorthand or other distracting methods of writing, such as writing a post completely bolded, with capital letters, in a strange color, etc.
It also should go without saying that swearing, profanity, sexual references, etc, are strictly forbidden, including all images that are posted on or uploaded to our site. Remember that we have users of all ages and that Dakka should be a welcoming place for everyone to enjoy.
