As long as some asshats in Congress don't push through the axe to our pensions like they've tried recently, I'll get 50% of my pay (averaged from the final 3 years of service), and access to Tricare for the rest of my life (which I do have to pay for, but only something like $30 a month).

In today's political climate of axe the military first, who knows how long it'll remain like that. To me though, that is worth staying in for, and it's why even though I've spent the last 5.5 years eating a gak sandwich, I'm sticking it out. I've got 8 years to go, and while I can't say I have anything close to the enthusiasm to serve that I did a decade ago, now I've just gotta keep pushing it out for that pension.

See, if I wasn't just ridicously fat (which I need to fix anyway unless I want an early death) I wouldn't mind joining the Guard.

The saddest part of that is that MSNBC is only the third worst offender.

I remember someone on here, I forget who, said they read Al Jazeera for news, and was roundly mocked. Man, I didn't think that was funny at all and I think your post and the Buzzfeed article prove it well. I pretty much had to stick to them, Reuters and the BBC for reading up on the Ukraine situation.

retirement bennies from the military and VA is good. Additional income, healthcare, perks...well...its worth it because working on my 2nd retirement now. So 53 (combat deployments. Those who went but do not know hit me up) when I retire a second time I'm golden...if asshats in Congress and POTUS don't screw with us

As to the military thing, I'm with a few others, in that I've been in since I was 18, had plans to do 20, but those have been stripped from me due to the downsizing military. On the plus side, the manner in which I'm leaving ensures that I get all the things they messed up in me cared for for life, and I should be getting a chunk of change to go along with it.

These are the times when the Court of Public Opinion should hold some sway... Absolute BS. When the little gakstain actually admits to drinking (underage), and doing marijuana (currently illegal in Florida) there should be no "dropping the charges"

I was implying a situation like "Angels Take Manhattan" wherein a person touched by an angel (haha, see what I did there?) is whisked away to the past, imprisoned in one spot, and basically forced to live to death.... In this way, this little kid is FORCED to endure his own career, from the "other side" of the spectrum

I think we'd ALL celebrate Beiber's death as a national holiday. We'll call it..."Thank God Day". Even the atheists will have reason to believe on this holy of holiest days.
