The Peloponeisian War, it's incredibly dramatic. The back and forth between Sparta and Athens and then the folly of Athenian foreign adventurism. (America take notes!) Big battles in Greece and Sicily, both land and naval. The combined battle of Pylos and Sphacteria have to be one of the most dramatic turn of events in military history. Especially when you read about it in Thucydides who was an Athenian General at the time, and wrote what is probably like the oldest book on military history. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Pylos

Unfortunately it's not the best war to game, since the both sides armies are similar looking and Phalanx tactics aren't exactly nuanced. Galley combat would be cool to re-create though since there was a significant difference between Athenian and Spartan ships.

There are some great articles and AARs on the Phalanx in the current (I think) issue of Wargames Illustrated, well worth the read and some really nice examples of the different miniatures used.

I have alot of favorites,i just keep them in a catergory,ww2,korea etc. But my top favare the BAttle of little Big Horn,Gettysburg and a quit few for ww2 and Vietnam.Heck even Desert Storm is one of my favs.
