I'm surprised Braveheart and 300 count as war films. 300 is a comic book, if that counts then '300 Spartans' does so more, or maybe Spartacus and similar.

I though the Battle of the Bulge would be on there, it's on TV often enough. There are others often shown on TV that don't appear like Tora Tora Tora, the Coldtiz Story or the Blue Max.

I guess the Great Escape will win. But if you like that, the Wooden Horse is good, and if you like Zulu there's also Zulu Dawn.

Paths of Glory
All Quiet on the Western Front
A Bridge too Far
Full Metal Jacket
Bridge Over the River Kwai

I might have picked Schindler's List, but I wouldn't really class it as a war film. If so then films like Gone With the Wind should probably be on the list too. I didn't want to pick anything that glamorized war.

Disappointed Patton wasn't on the list, because that's probably my favorite.

The lack of Apocalypse Now in some of these lists is kind of making me sad.

I don't really like it. I would liken watching it to being date raped... It all starts off well, but then after a few hours there was some colours, some disjointed fragments of disturbing imagery, and then I'm not really sure what happened.

This also happened when I watched 2001.

I can't believe Patton wasn't on that list.

Apocalypse Now and A Bridge Too Far are the top two for me. Also voted for Full Metal Jacket, Platoon, and Lawrence of Arabia. Black Hawk Down is also deserving. There's a lot of films on that list that I think have no business being there, especially some of the older, cheesy films. Bridge on River Kwai is almost very good, but the American to the rescue commando part of the movie kills it for me.

The only way we can ever solve anything is to look in the mirror and find no enemy

Man, this was a tough choice. There were some really good movies on there, and some absolute crap. Andthere were far more than 5 good choices. In the end, I went with:

Zulu (because: Zulu, that's why!)
Paths of Glory (because: OMG have you seen it?)
Saving Private Ryan (because: it was good)
Kelly's Heroes (because: Donald Sutherland as a WWII hippy!)
The Longest Day (because: every actor in film in the early 60s is in it)

I'm surprised cinematic diarrhea like 300 was on the list.

Emperor's Eagles (undergoing Chapter reorganization)
Caledonian 95th (undergoing regimental reorganization)
Thousands Sons (undergoing Warband re--- wait, are any of my 40K armies playable?)

First the missing that should be there:

Go tell the Spartans
Das Boot (The Boat) German
태극기 휘날리며 ( Taegukgi Brotherhood of War) Korean. May be the best foreign war film of the last 50 years..
集结号(Assembly) Chinese Based on a true story.
포화 속으로 (71 Into the Fire) Korean - True story of 71 college students drafted into battle without any training http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/71:_Into_the_Fire

The ones that are:

Zulu
The Longest Day
Cross of Iron
Platoon
Henry V

If I was vain I would list stuff to make me sound good here. I decline. It's just a game after all.

House Rule -A common use of the term is to signify a deviation of game play from the official rules.

Do you allow Forgeworld 40k approved models and armies?

Well considering it's a really good adaptation of the comic it was supposed to be an adaptation of not a historically accurate film I would hardly call it diarrhoea

Currently debating whether to study for my exams or paint some Deathwing

A really good adaptation of a really bad comic book is still a really bad movie.

Emperor's Eagles (undergoing Chapter reorganization)
Caledonian 95th (undergoing regimental reorganization)
Thousands Sons (undergoing Warband re--- wait, are any of my 40K armies playable?)
