Considering the codex comes out in a week, I don't think you'll need to worry about it being outdated. Grots have BS3, which is the same BS as Guardsmen, so it's actually pretty alright. I hear you on not wanting to buy a new codex, but it's the allies system at work.

From the sounds of it, it's already more outdated than the old one.
