The Chaos Space Marines embraced the idea of following the biggest, meanest, "alpha" around. Sure, a Demon-Primarch like Angron is a pretty big deal, so he'd likely collect a big following. The loyalty of his followers wouldn't last 5 seconds however, if something bigger, badder came along to claim dominance of the warband. Just like any Chaos Lord/Daemon Prince.

He collected 50,000 Khorne Bezerkers. Where's his Slaaneshi Warriors then?

His Nurgle?

How about some Sorcerers, he must want himself some Sorcerers for his War.

No? Only Khornate Berzerkers and World Eaters?

Every Single Last One of them was for Khorne, not some mish-mash hippie renegade group who believes in including everyone. I highly doubt that any Emperors Children or Slaanesh troops would follow him.

Because occasionally there are horrible brain-farts like the Dominion-of-Fire-stuff in the 40K-fluff. Just use your brain, ignore it and move on.

Luckly, I think they got rid off all the atrocious 3rd and 4th Edition Codex writers with the (sigh) exception of Phil Kelly, and 40K fluff improved greatly since.

Opinions, opinions.

The Dominion of Fire: 4th edition. Primarch Angron. Gav Thorpe & Alessio Cavatore.
Spoiler:
One of the legendary Primarchs of old emerge from the Eye of Terror at the head of the World Eaters Legion (yep, it says "World Eaters"), joined again under his command.

It is not a stupid 10-men strong warband, it is a Legion-size force made of 50000 marines and countless human forces, wreaking havoc for over two centuries, causing mayhem on 36 different sectors. The situation was made even worse when many minor Chaos warbands took advantage of the situation to pillage and plunder, and when many Imperial governors declared themselves in open rebellion.

After lots of efforts, the Imperium eventually defeated the invasion and sent Angron back to Hell. However, taking back what was lost was only possible after seven centuries of constant warfare.

That´s what happen when a Primarch goes to battle at the head of his Legion.

Kelly´s Opinion: 6th edition.
Spoiler:
Perturabo uses some magic we never heard about to invoke Nurgle, a Chaos God he never worshipped, and thus send a plague to a single world. The world is destroyed. Wow what a great magician Perturabo is. He didn´t use a single soldier, he didn´t get nothing out of this, and all of a sudden he is a Nurgle Sorcerer.

In my opinion, the first entry puts Chaos where it should be: a major threat at the same level than Tyranids and Necrons. It has it all: countless hordes, rebellion, warbands, pillage, mayhem, a Primarch, a Legion.... it also creates a vast setting where you can recreate one of the countless battles fought there. The mind boggles at the scale of the events narrated there. You read that and you feel the need to build an army to bring such an epic setting to life.

The second entry gives me nothing to recreate. A guy says hocus pocus and that´s all. And it goes against absolutely everything ever written before about Perturabo. With no explanation, with no reason, with no sense. A 12 years old without any knowledge of the setting could have written that entry. I have seen far better fluff in fan-fiction. It literally means nothing. It gives nothing to the reader.

In your opinion, the first in a "brain fart" and the second is somehow acceptable. "Improved greatly" seems to be your opinion about the pitiful current state of the fluff. I just don´t understand how. For me, most of the lastly written fluff sound really childish, of no consecuence and going against everything written in the previous 25 years.

I'm kind of surprised to see that Thousand Sons are the most popular, considering how much internet hate they seem to get.

The sons are my favorite chaos legion by a long shot. I am a fan of the backstory and they are incredibly fun to play.

Death Guard and Emperor's Children are the other two that I run.

If I played Chaos, I would play either Word Bearers, World Eaters or Night Lords.

Yeah. It's perhaps more surprising, and indicative of how much the fans of the Thousand Sons like their chosen legion, that we adamantly stick to playing the legion with probably the WORST rules of all of them, given the shaft in a stunningly consistent manner by the rules makers.

I think "contempt" would be a better word for Mr No Arms. It is a big-bad who keep failing over and over to give wings to loyalist´s fantasies...

the problem with legion tactics is even if they brought it in, would they be good eneugh. or would people simply demand that "my cranky marines are a white scars sucessor that fell! I should be able to use the white scars chapter tactics"

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

Aye, I feel you. It'd be much for interesting to have say one of Omegon's plots (I'm biased here) result in war in a few sectors than another campaign where it is impossible for the bad guys to win. I'm not even talking about getting to Terra, but simply having a succesful campaign

I don't play legionnaire warbands, I, in theory, have/will have a traitor BA succesor who worship Khorne.

BUT...

If I did make a legion 'band, it would be Night Lawrds.
