Not that we'll see a resurgence of Deathwing armies, but they will gain a significant boost from being a Troop choice; now they can DS in enemy territory and secure objectives really well. Not to mention bringing Land Raiders as dedicated transports.

I found another gem. Dedicated transports are troops if their units are troops. Chimera, rhinos, and drop pods can be superscoring. Also get ready to throw up in your mouth a little bit. Wave serpents going flat out like jetbikes while jinking for a 2+ or 3+ cover save with holofields depending on if going flat out adds a +1 to jink that stacks with holofields.
My master or ordnance can now ignore cover when ordered. Wave serpents shall fall by the dozen.
AP3 can no longer explode vehicles, all it can possibly do now is immobilize or strip HP. Ignore cover is only -2 to it's jink save.
Oh man, last game my MOO detonated a land raider. Any chance ordnance will get a +1 bonus?
Unlikely. Ordinance has consistently received rerolling armor pen as it's bonus against vehicles. Looks like BA, GK, and DA will have access to Troops land raiders with objective secured.
Helldrakes, vendettas, and Valkyries can also go into hover mode to secure an objective.
Inquisition Valkyries purchased for henchmen will be objective secured troops if they go into hove mode on the last turn of the game.

Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.

For Tau, this is a very good thing. Previously our troops were bad scoring units, fragile and easily wiped out. Having other options to hold the backfield (hello scoring Broadsides!) means that our troops can contribute in a way that matches their strengths - massed pulse fire and acting as speed bumps for assault armies.
Given it sounds like a jinking Devilfish with a DPod having a 3+ again and that vehicles in general may be tougher, I think my Firewarriors are going to ride up the board for a little old school Fish of Fury action. Hopefully Pinning takes a boost too, make those Pulse Carbines even sweeter.

Troops are more resilient to certain weapons than MCs and Vehicles are and can bring more shots to the table for the same points value (whether they're good shots or not varies), and troops are super-scoring. Vehicles have a new, better damage chart, so anything less than AP2 can at best immobilize a vehicle; leaving hull point stripping as the main way to kill vehicles for anything but specialist weapons.
That being said if you remind me of the aggravation that was fish of fury I will shove your codex down your throat in a PTSD induced berserk fury triggered by memories of 4e Grav falcons and Fish of Fury.

So now I'm debating between taking Grey Knight terminator allies for my Guard since they will now have objective secured. Sounds really nasty TBH since they have Deep Strike.

I think, as my main opponent is eldar and i play orks, my main battle strategy will change from "too many troops for you to kill" to just trying to table him. if his waveserpents now have a 3+ cover save and are scoring units because they're dedicated transports for his troops, I'll just give up even trying to score points and go for the kill.
against other armies though, my 6 trukks of boys approach just doubled the number of scoring units i had from 6 to 12, and all the other units semi-scoring besides! using big guns as an objective sitter just became a lot more reliable!
there are some minor abuses I've figured out though. one of which was for necrons - a Monolith is 6" square, so it makes an 8" square no-go zone (the 1" bubble around it) for enemy units (unless they charge). so if you can get a monolith onto an objective and they can't destroy it, then even the enemy troops can't get within 3" of the objective to claim it, and it'll go uncontested. and now with unbound, you can take 10 monoliths! they can simply push the enemy off of objectives and kill stuff.
for my chaos it might make me a bit more flexible on my HQ's as I like making my plague marines troops, and so if they score already then i might use DP's and abbadon more often.
large squadrons will also have a decent advantage (I'm thinking grot tanks here) as they can spread out to keep people off of their own objective.
all in all though, I think we'll see the return of elites! and that sounds good to me, where are my burna boys?

Yeah, I think that Orks can now spend more points on "not just boyz" and that is a good thing. It certainly looks like Mech/speed cult lists can go wild

I'm having some doubts now if vehicles will score. We all know the baseline is everything scores, but that doesn't eliminate the possibility that units can have a rule stating that they can not score. I'm starting to suspect they will give a can't score usr to swarms and vehicles that are not walkers.

If vehicles can score without Scouring or Big Guns type rules, then Fast and/or Skimmer type vehicles just because a must-have for last minute contesting, as they move 12 then flat out for 12-18 more - thats enough to reach most of the board given the same objective placement rules (6" from edges, 12" from each other).
My piranha will love that

At least CSM will finally have some ups:
-Scoring flying daemon princes
-Scoring Heldrakes (when hovering)
-Scoring deep-striking Oblits
-Scoring allied GUO + Plaguebearer retinue.

Not a whole lot: The majority of my favoured units either are scoring or had ways to count as scoring.
That said, I'll be delighted to see the look on a gun-line players' face after they've realised their victory point-granting cards now require them to move around. a lot. Should be fun. :-)

I would just like to state that unless you have a very special rule to ignore D weapons then nothing stops a D weapon in the new edition. Escalation's ruling on no saves of any kind on D weapons will be going to apoc book too.

Tanks can score.
Models with Objective Secured can take objectives from tanks, everything can contest.
...when within 3" of an objective.
Tanks are big. Tank squadrons are -really- big.

Could be an Ld test on a 3D6.
Chaos can only hope. But knowing GW, it'll read:
"...that cause Fear must take an Ld test on a D3, if they pass, they fire all of their weapons at BS 10, ten times over, and each of these shots has Rending, Instant Death, Twin Linked and Witchfire. As per the "For The Emperor" USR."
