For a comp nid army these are what you want as many of as possible:

Flying hive tyrants with BL devourers and shock grubs.

Hive crones.

Skyblight gargoyles.

Units that are good but not absolutely necessary

Carnifexes (either go with Crushing claws or twin BL devourers, ignore any other weapon choices)

Biovores

Exorcines (best as part of living artillery so they don't take carnifex slots)

Venomthropes

Rippers (to fill out your troop tax)

Zoanthropes

Harpies

Mawlocs

Okay units

T-fexes with acid spray (the Rupture cannon has gone from bad to worse and the Fleshborer hive is laughably terrible)

Gaunts/Gants, sadly endless swarm does not have objective secured.

Hive guard (because you're going to be seeing annihilation barges come with a vengeance thanks to their improved jink saves and not caring if they snapshot or not)

Minimum genestealers to serve as a Broodlord escort service (the Broodlord is very good for his cost. Shame about the 14 point ork wounds he has to take with him)

Spore mines

Bad units:

Warriors

Tyranid Primes

Deathleaper (for taking a Flyrant slot, not an HQ slot, a Flyrant slot)

Genestealers

Shrikes

Raveners

Tervigons

gak units:

Trygons

Pyrovores

Old One Eye.

Lictors.

Haruspexes

Walking Hive Tyrants

Swarmlord.

Well, lets talk competitive nid armies using the new rules, and the current codex. What are peoples thoughts?

I'm assuming you mean a pure Nids army and not a bastardised one with Tau allies or whatever.

Spam Hive Tyrant and Hive Crones.
Carnifices are also good, especially since they can bust heavy armour.
I feel like the changes to FMCs will benefit the Harridan if you're playing mini-Apocalypse 40k.

other than that, the standard Zoanthropes and Venomthropes, probably go minimum on Troops.

You know what really bugs me? When my opponent, before they show up at the FLGS smears themselves in peanut butter and then makes blood sacrifices to Ashterai by slitting the throat of three male chickens and then smears the spatter pattern into the peanut butter to engrave sacred symbols into their chest and upper arms.
I have a peanut allergy. It's really inconsiderate.

"Long ago in a distant land, I, M'kar, the shape-shifting Master of Chaos, unleashed an unspeakable evil! But a foolish Grey Knight warrior wielding a magic sword stepped forth to oppose me. Before the final blow was struck, I tore open a portal in space and flung him into the Warp, where my evil is law! Now the fool seeks to return to real-space, and undo the evil that is Chaos!"

Well, I came up with this, I originally had only one unit of gaunts and 2 more zoeys, but I don't know if the extra psykers is worth the lack of super scoring....or whether I'm better with scoring units....I'd like to go tyranid fluffy and say screw scoring..... I know people don't like a couple of units here, but I think they have a place....

1500 Pts - Codex: Tyranids Roster

Total Roster Cost: 1500

HQ: Hive Tyrant (1#, 230 pts)
1 Hive Tyrant + TL Devourer w/Brainleech Worms x2 + Wings

HQ: Tervigon (1#, 220 pts)
1 Tervigon + Crushing Claws + Electroshock Grubs

Troops: Termagant Brood (30#, 160 pts)
30 Termagant Brood + Devourer x10

Troops: Tervigon (1#, 220 pts)
1 Tervigon, + Crushing Claws + Electroshock Grubs

Elite: Zoanthrope Brood (2#, 100 pts)
2 Zoanthrope Brood

Elite: Zoanthrope Brood (2#, 100 pts)
2 Zoanthrope Brood

Elite: Haruspex (1#, 175 pts)
1 Haruspex + Adrenal Glands

Fast Attack: Hive Crone (1#, 155 pts)
1 Hive Crone

Heavy Support: Mawloc (1#, 140 pts)
1 Mawloc

Thats a super scoring tervigon. And quite a few potential super scoring termagaunts. I wanted hormagaunts with toxin sacs....can't seem to make them fit...

Thank you. Finally.

Note to the reader: my username is not arrogance. No, my name is taken from the most excellent of commanders: Lord Castellan Creed, of the Imperial Guar- I mean Astra Militarum - who has a special rule known only as "Tactical Genius"... Although nowhere near as awesome as before, it now allows some cool stuff for the Guar- Astra Militarum - player. FEAR ME AND MY TWO WARLORD TRAITS.
