I'm amazed how many people put up with nonsense when playing at stores.

If anyone tries shenanigans with me they called out on it. I'm not out for conflict but you have to be seen to stand up for yourself. This isn't Internet Forum Warrior style - I'm not a black belt in some ancient forbidden martial art nor am I a seven foot, 20 stone rugby player.

Everyone makes mistakes (I usually forget that Cold Ones are Stupid, for example), but if by turn two your opponent is benefiting from your incredible sportsmanship whilst denying you every last little thing then start playing accordingly.

"I can be a massive jerk too, son... now watch THIS... "

This.

I cannot fathom how some people in this thread just put up with these shenanigans.

I've spent too many years playing & officiating high level competitive ice hockey to get into massive in-game arguments over toy soldiers.

Sure I may call someone out when they're being a raging donkey-cave, but overall, I'm too tired of conflict in the name of 'uber competitiveness to care more than just a quick, "cool, you win this d*** measuring contest - congrats at being a bigger monkey" and just pack-up.

When someone who's taken a friendly game of toy soldiers so seriously that they've resorted to d-bag abuses such as T1 Warp Quake the entire table, or pulling out an Alarielle Light Coven, I just refuse to play them after the first time.

I've seen too much ugliness in the name of hyper competitive 'win at all costs' to get into a game of one-upmanship of "who's the bigger jerk?!"

Sage counsel indeed.

Keeping these folks out of your gaming circle is far more rewarding than winding them up and baiting them.

I only ever play mates so gladly I don't deal with these types, though I'll be attending my FLGS a lot more for WHFB games and Infinity so I need to prepare my self!
