@greytalon666 - you are right! My bad. 6th edition said you had to be more than 24"apart.

7th says -

We've found that 12"away from the centre line works best; this ensures armies will start at least 24"apart, which makes first turn charges hard to achieve while giving you enough space on a typical table to deploy your army.

This alone implies that turn 1 charges are possible!

Just pointing out that due to being on round bases being 24" apart and being 24.0000...01" apart are equivalent. You still need to move more than 24" to make base contact unless you are able guarantee you are exactly on your deployment edge, exactly opposite the opponent and move exactly directly at them. All of which is essentially impossible even with hi tech equipment. So you still need atleast a 25" move to make turn 1 assault.

Which, as has been covered ad nauseum above is difficult but not impossible for many units to achieve... Orks alone have a theoretical threat radius of 26".

Not just Orks. Banshees have a 27" threat radius out of a dark eldar raider without any vehicle turning shenanigans, along with fleet, making rolling a 9 a fair possibility.

There is NO SUCH THING as MORE ADVANCED in 40k!!! There are ONLY 2 LEVELS of RULES: Basic and Advanced. THE END. Stop saying "More Advanced". That is not a recognized thing in modern 40k!!!!

Swooping Hawks Warp Spiders have 30".
Marines in a Scouting Landraider have 36".

Though a 27" move would require a 10" charge roll as you'll always be more than 24" apart due to round bases and the inablity to perfectly measure being exactly opposite each other and then moving perfectly perpendicular.
