Credit to the England tail, especially Ali. They had plenty of chances, but backed themselves and kept swinging, and the runs they scored put Australia behind the 8-ball.

The real story, though, is the Australian middle order. Numbers 4 to 6 managed a top score of 16 between them across the two innings. That's lamentable and I'd be amazed if we went in to the next test with an unchanged line up. There's lots of talk about Clarke but it's just talk, he's the captain and still holds an amazing record over his career - he could fail to score in every innings and he'd probably still last until the end of the Australian summer. Marsh will stay because they want the all rounder and he's only had one bad test.

That means Voges will go, and Shaun Marsh will take his spot.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

Aussie tail enders manage what their batsmen couldn't (sticking around).

Target is 121. Odds on top 4 being skittled but England winning are pretty good at the bookies atm!

HA hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

I'm going to lie down in a darkened room.

England to get a quick 150, declare, and see off the aussies with the extra hour tonight?

Just checked out TMS on the beeb. Broad is 3rd best ashes bowling figures behind the legendary Jim Laker. Pretty good that.

First time since 1896 that the Aussies have been bowled out before lunch in a Test...

Broadsided!
Pomicide!
Mugged in Broad daylight!
Couldn't hit the BROADside of a barn.

And now the Root of Aussies troubles!

History still being made.

England now 200+ahead.

Why on earth has Siddle not been picked to bowl? What possessed the selectors to pick 'batsman marsh' who has failed in 16 of 20 ish innings?

At this point, I'd almost like to see England declare overnight. Best case scenario, the bowlers repeat their fantastic display and take tomorrow afternoon (and the rest of the week) off, worst case scenario the Aussies post a total and we've still got plenty of time to chase it down.

A 400-450 lead should be enough. Bat through till tea tomorrow, maybe go for bigger total and declare to leave two and a half days to bowl or chase a small total.

Forget the 400+ lead - don't need it.

Aus - 138-4 at tea.

38 overs to bowl. Not including the extra time/overs (if they are needed).

Stokes is the man this afternoon - 3 wickets for a pittance.

The worlds No 1 batsman saw the plan and field being set for him, took his guard, and fell for the trap....Stokes involved in that as well.

Anyone else kind of sad this test will be over in two days?

Should say that Starc bowled well for his figures earlier on in the day. But again was too little too late. Moeen did the job along with Broad to get us to a nice total.

The loss of 2 or 3 days of TMS is very sad, as it was in the last Test, but the Ashes returning to Blighty is decent compensation

I have the greatest respect for Aussie cricket, I hope the press there don't get stuck in to them too much. I think what has happened here is (to a certain extent) a function of the modern trend towards bat over ball - the line between success and failure becomes so very fine when you're having a swish at pretty much everything.

And Clark is retiring. We'll call that a mercy kill.

Ricky Ponting is reported as saying that at least 8 of the current touring team wont play again.

With Clarke retiring after this series, Rogers saying he'll retire who will deffo go?

Voges has had his chance. Watson may have had his last chance. Is Haddin finished with Neville taking the reigns. Marsh 'the batsmen' doesn't seem cut out for test batting. Are there any names that spring to mind when looking at rebuilding the batting order.

Which of the bowlers still deserves their place. Is Cummins still knocking on the door ?
