I've been playing around the the Purge Detachment, running Chosenwing with 2plas/2 chem flamers in a rhino and it's been interesting. I like having a ton of special weapons, so a Squad of PM as a retinue for my warlord+ a ton of MSU chosen is worth it to me, but it might not be everyone's cup of tea.

What irks me is that Chosen are supposed to be the Creme de la Creme of CSM, and they don't have any special rules to show it.

Chosen could benefit from been a "CMD squad" like unit, with ONE veteran rule that you can choose before the game in a chart of 3 or 4 depending on the role you want them to fulfill, just look at IG and Renegades Veterans units, give them appropriate wargear and a bonus rule, and their utility and role changes drasticly.

Personaly i liked when i was playing CSm to get 7 Chosen MoK, 2 special CCW and 2 meltas in a LR with Kharn, it could dish out some Pain, but even at 7 models it was a 240-ish pts squad.

You can still do this now.

Maybe, if you wanted to lose. Pretty sure 5 Terminators with Combi-Melta is cheaper and does the same exact thing, except better.

I'm not in favour of giving tons of special rules to units just to prove how 'special' they are.

Chosen just need a proper statline (WS5, 2 wounds, perhaps a 6+ invul save?), then veteran rules as you say, and they're good to go. I don't mind paying a premium points price for a unit if said unit actually delivers what's expected of them.

Current Chosen are a glass cannon at best, if you're actually willing to spend a lot of points in special weapons. If you're not, then they're just glass.

You know if they did this it would have to be a random table right? And it would end up costing an arm and a leg because they'd price them based on the "good" result from the table plus a little bit extra just to be safe (because Chaos - feth you!). Maybe your Chosen's 10k years of experience have granted them the veteran ability to infiltrate! Or maybe they just punch each other in the face uncontrollably! Who knows? It's Chaos! feth you!

I wish they would just return the Veteran skills to us. And the old Daemonic Gifts.

Personally I think Chosen should be like the Grey Knight Paladins, but with a choice of Power armor or Terminator Armor. Essentially a squad of characters running about.

But then, I've been predicting that we won't see another codex or model release until the Maple Leafs win the Stanley Cup.

Well, next year is the 50th anniversary of their last Cup win, so who knows, with Babs behind the bench & history knocking on the door, maybe Little Hittler will put the fix in and Young Street will see a parade for once?!

And then GW will give us a re-printing of our 4th edition codex, but this time with 20%pts hikes across the board & 100% more random, because... "Chaos!"

I'm pretty sure they're recreating the line. GW even remade old monopose flash gits even though they are and were a pretty weak unit even for ork standards. Rules have nothing to do with it, so it's useless to base assumptions on how "the codex sux" in regards of what's gona happen next.
