Hmm... I don't think the scoring system is putting anyone off thus far, the number of entries has pretty steadily climbed and there's at least one or two new faces every month. At least, I hope there's no one out there taking it so seriously that being a few points down in a for-fun League would stop them entering.

One thing I think I brought up a few months back but that now would be the best time to implement is the name of the challenge; Dakka (Unofficial) Painting Challenge is a bit of a mouthful, anyone got any suggestions for a snappier name? I think 'Rusty Imp' (as opposed to Golden Demon) was suggested a while back, which I kind of like. Or should it be left as it is? I'm open to ideas on this one.

I... actually don't know. Help?

"The Dakkies" sounds great.

I'm guessing you can suggest themes in this thread?

I vote leave it as it is.

INSANE army lists still available!!!! Now being written in 8th edition format! I have Index Imperium 1, Index Imperium 2, Index Xenos 2, Codex Orks Codex Tyranids, Codex Blood Angels and Codex Space Marines!
PM me for an INSANE (100K+ points) if you desire.

Get an admin to make it official, it's not like we're asking for anything, and it does generate traffic.

I'll ask when I get around to PMing important people to get the League thread stickied, not sure anything will come of it though, since a) there have been official Dakka paint challenges in the past, they probably want to avoid confusion with those, and b) there's probably some legal mumbo jumbo that they can't official endorse it without being responsible for that one time someone cuts themselves while clipping a Space Marine from a sprue or something!

Are you suggesting that the admins are cowards?

They're the manliest men I know, they'll prove it endorsing this process, I'm certain.

Have we started subject voting yet? How about something like Heresy or Traitor?

Next month will be Space Marine, in honour of the first challenge. I'll keep those in mind for the round after, though!

If it's okay with Para, rather than drop more work on him, I'll have a prod at doing a Painter's/Entrant's Choice Awards by going through the year's entries, and compiling them, then taking a single (written) nomination for a small handful of categories.
Voting would then be open to anyone who took part in this year.
It's messier than standard format, but with some tweaking, it should work okay.

We may end up with exactly the same results, or we may find that painters pick differently to general public.

I was wondering about categories...

Most Improved is a given.
What about Unsung Hero for a single model you remember thinking was superb but didn't garner recognition?
Spirit of the Competition (or something less messy) for a piece you thought covered all the bases of the contest? - combined idea, painting and fun.

Needs refining, I'm literally running on fever right now.
Any suggestions for another category?
I'll also work on Painter's Choice overall - I think the only way to do that is a manual poll - ask people for their solo vote for each month, and crunch numbers.
Part of me for ease of effort thinks that should be from the votes top three, but as those were public votes, that kind of spits on the overall concept of PC.

It'll be a little bit of work for anyone voting, so moving forward, a look at how to handle it... Perhaps the first 12 posts in the topic should be the collected months from '15/'16?

Reject nurgle bc.

Sounds like a good idea you've got though!

I'm not sure a forum would be the correct way to handle votes. Subreddit?

It should stay on Dakka. Maybe just a single PM and I'll promise not to tell anyone that you put Januine 13 times.

I think Jan knows that I love him more than I love Duncan.

HAVE I TOLD YOU HOW MUCH I LOVE DUNCAN?

What are you trying to award with the Painter's Choice award? Is it best painter of the year (the league tells us it's Januine)? Or is it best overall model? If it's the latter I'd post the links to the twelve voting threads and get people to go take a look themselves.

Just so we're all on the same page here, the plan I have is this.

Once this month's results are in, and TP has updated the League for this year/rotation one last time, I will create a thread with the following:
- The full League, how everyone placed, points totals ect.
- A compilation of the 1st through 3rd entrants of each month, to act as a Hall of Fame. This will also have an poll on it, one vote per voter, to pick the 'favourite' entry from the year.
- An encouragement to pick out your most improved, favourite or whatever else entries/entrants from across the year for one more celebration, and also to post your own entries from across the 12 rounds, whether you completed all 12, half a dozen or just two. I'll be leading the charge on both myself, hopefully others will take a moment to do the same.

So don't let me stop you if you want to set up a written poll or anything like that, just thought I'd make everyone aware of what my own plan was so we don't end up with 3 people trying to do 3 slightly different versions of the same thing!

Very similar, but I was proposing Paibters Choice be centred solely on participants voting. As I said, the people taking part may have a different set of favourites, and certainly have more insight into what went into the models.

Dakka public vote is often different to how folk taking part feel, evidenced by the months a subject was chosen and participants were a little stretched to think of entries at the start.

True enough, like I say, this is everyone's challenge initiative, I just run the thing, so please do feel free to set up a thread along those lines!

make that two people organising vote threads. Little old me is sitting back and waiting for my stack of life admin to settle slightly before any such endeavours. I will however be doing the League because I love numbers, and organising the little blighters

Looking forward to the year in review stuff. I’ve been compositing my monthly entries into single pictures to help reduce spam. Up to 5 a month for 12 months makes a tall stack of pictures to sift through.

Thanks again for everyone for putting all the work into this.
